Over 700 confirmed cases in ZIP 60016. They can't all be in unincorporated Des Plaines. Did the mayor give any more details?

if you look at the graph, the first data point is approximately 4-11, and at that point there were 111 cases, now, less than ONE MONTH later there are 707 cases, there is no manipulation on the graph. Your point on testing is irrelevant as obviously at some point there will be zero. The point of the graph is that now that testing is being done, the number of people infected is rising as expected, and you should take that under consideration when deciding whether or not this is under control.

You may be correct but not because it is on the graph. The graph just shows the number of positive cases based on the number tested and not necessarily that there is an increase in actual cases. I would be concerned that the numbers of infected are rising but all im saying is the graph does not tell me that. Can you positively confirm that all the people who were positive in May totally weren't in April? Dont just assume.

there is no correlation on the graph between the number of people tested and the number currently confirmed, it only shows the rise in the number of confirmed cases over the roughly last month. Who knows how many are infected, that's the point. Those tested in May, may or may not have been in April, those who test in June, may or may not have been in May. Don't assume that many, many aren't infected and won't know until they are tested.

Thats true. I perform testing professionally and graphs are important ways to deliver information but I rarely pay attention to them, I look for the data and proof that backs them up. I feel bad for the sufferers and it pisses me off that it is happening so close to home too. I just would prefer that we don't use graphs and others as a way to display assumptions as fact.

trickle,
Des Plaines is broken into two zip codes (60018 and 60016). Part of 60016 includes an unincorporated area of Des Plaines. The number of cases in 60016 (707) vs 60018 (306) is much higher (more than double).

We could just have a lot of essential workers living here and are unable to stay home. I don’t think it matters if it’s unincorporated or not. Maybe 60016 covers a larger area also. Des Plaines is pretty big compared to other surrounding suburbs I believe.

if it’s essential workers then there’s a real problem. See, everybody else is asking where cases are coming from. NYC has the most info. Most new cases were nonessentials stayed at home. Followed by nursing homes. So if essential workers here are getting sick but not elsewhere it would mean there’s done other problem.

60016. Without looking there’s at least three nursing homes. It includes high density areas like the downtown condos and the condos and apartment complexes in unincorporated. If just the nursing facilities had 100 each you’d account for half. And there may be more than three.

Can we discuss any positive recovery stories, specifically in DP. Does anyone know of people that got it and recovered? I know a family of 3 (daughter and both parents) had it and recovered . Or any stories of where people got it? Ex. Went to jewel and started showing symptoms days later. I know employees from Fiesta Market had tested positive a few weeks ago and Butera had a few employees that tested positive as well.

yes fear is taking over! Today in Aldi a man screamed at a lady behind him in line at checkout to get back six feet, she was like four feet from him( I was on the other side of the store). I wanted to yell, “Yes, get back away from Scaredy Cat! “ That was so weird. Obviously he was closer to people going down the isles than six feet. Fear causes panic and many Scaredy Cats.

I was thinking the same thing but it does. For example: if one person from a family or business is sick and test + then with tracing they will test all those who have come in contact. Many if not most will test asymptomatic or low symptomatic. If they are counted as+ covid in the general numbers it seems worse. To me, it is 2 numbers I wish we had. Covid symptomatic and non symptomatic. Now, of course they can spread and that is why they should be isolated. I think the tests are becoming more available now.
