Shopify is slowly dieing. It will likely be removed from Facebook within the year and completely die off.
by (410 points)
@hymenopterous6 Desrosiers you’re crazy if you think Shopify will die, yet alone within a year.
by (770 points)
@hymenopterous6 Desrosiers wtf? What are you talking about?
by (990 points)
@couple Shopify let's anybody advertise and it's about 50 percent scammers right now. Facebook has a backlog of Shopify complaints for popup stores that are scams. There's no vetting and Shopify takes no responsibility for it. Facebook will remove the Fake ads until it costs them more money then they are getting through the portal and they will eventually block Shopify. It's a dieing platform to operate from. Message Facebook staff regarding Shopify stores and see what they tell you. PayPal is also on the verge of taking away it's processing from them from all the false payment processing. It's easy to see, open your eyes and take a look at all the ads from Shopify through Facebook. You'll see it in the news soon I'm sure. Good luck any how.
by (730 points)
@hymenopterous6 Desrosiers LMAO that is the most ridiculous thing I have heard today. FB, Shopify & PayPal are partners & their interests are aligned. Shopify is growing like crazy which in turn is contributing to both FB & PayPal growth as there are more merchants out there who are advertising on FB & using PayPal. Shopify is a thriving platform which just reached 1, 000, 000 merchants it's definitely not dying
by (470 points)
Totally dying.
by (990 points)
@grugru86 once the news breaks what happens to stocks value. Ever see canntrust stock. That's what happens when legalities play a factor. Look up a report for how many recent scammer transactions have taken place through bogus Shopify sites. It is on the verge of a downward spiral. Keep watching that stock.
by (880 points)
Wtf are you talking about lol. There's no platform that is better primed for growth and they are already the most used e-commerce platform. SMH

@hymenopterous6 Desrosiers this is hilarious

Facebook doesn't ban e-commerce platforms dude. LOL. Some of the biggest e-commerce stores on Earth are on the Shopify platform. Where you coming up with this bullshit?

Just stick to shopify. Look at colorpop. Gymshark. Focus on making money. Sales. Less on tech. Everything else is just an excuse.

WooCommerce is way more flexible as far as customization goes. You also have the ability to edit checkouts, and will also save you money in the long run because most apps/plugins are 1 time purchases. Just have to pay for hosting once a year. Shopify is easier to set up, but at a minimum you will be paying $30/month + monthly app subscriptions.

I recommend Shopify Plus since its has more features & gives you customisation abilities the other plans don't have. You will also get a lot of support from the Shopify Plus team as they work closely with plus merchants. Another reason is that the app store has a growing developer community.

Contact Shopify about their enterprise-level plan cost - with your revenue that's the plan you'd be on I think. Last we checked it was $1, 300/mo. An important consideration for an on-going expense vs. Woo which shouldn't require as much cost to host and maintain on a monthly-basis.

Depends on the industry. If you are integrating with an ERP and run B2B type of price structures/rules and not much volume go with WooCommerce. It’s easy and API enabled. If you sell simple products and are mostly B2C go to Shopify. Less maintenance. Nothing will break with updates. Go with Magento if you can afford a part time programmer to maintain and patch everything up. Also be prepared to spend every time you wish to update Magento because IT WILL BREAK. Also super steep learning curve. You basically need someone in charge of this. We are a 9M business but are distributors. Plan of funneling about 2M worth of business to online sales and am going with WooCommerce. I have worked on all these platforms extensively.

Shopify, 100% for scalability. While woocommerce offers more control, It’s a pain to manage as you grow. You’ll essentially need plugins for A LOT of the functionality Shopify has out of the box. Gymshark, Kylie Jenner and Kim. there are tons of stores doing millions leveraging Shopify’s platform. I’ve been able to scale and sell 3 businesses, app using Shopify as buyers love the ease of use, their dashboard and the apps that integrate almost seamlessly to the platform.

Shopify all the way. Live shopping cart kicks ass on FB live stream it's sick. Sorry, Karta plus works best for scalability and retains its value. The company is always innovating.

Shopify’s locked down robots. txt and strict URL structure kinda sucks for advanced technical SEO. But I would do Shopify over WooCommerce to avoid the need for DevOps, Shopify updates happen on their servers done by their dev teams, at most you have to manage updating your theme if a much nicer new version comes out. WooCommerce plug-ins are not convenient as they pile up.

Shopify plus. Magento could be an option but you are going to need a fairly large development budget.

Gymshark runs on Shopify and turns over $128 Million per year and 11 orders per second at peak. There is no other platform that can scale to that level without millions invested in infrastructure.
by (480 points)
Think they are $200m per year now. They sold shopify for me.

@thundery Yeah that wouldn’t surprise me they’ve grown crazy fast!

Why not use clickfunnels. So much better than shopify or woocommerce
by (1.1k points)
@gensmer744 no not joking. What makes shopify better?
by (1.1k points)
@gensmer744 true. But it really depends on what you are selling. If you have multiple products than I would use them both. For example: if you sell supplements and you only sell 2 sorts of pills and 2 sorts of capsules than its way better than shopify. Easy to build a funnel with up and down sells.
by (450 points)
@gensmer744 does Woo offer 1clickupsell?

@gensmer744 cool can dm and ask for more?

Woocommerce and shopify plus are equally good , but in your case I’d say Shopify plus ( out of these two options ) Lots of high volume stores run on + like kyliecosmetics, fashionova, the Los Angeles lakers official store, yeezy, colourpop and tons of others . We also have our own private solution that’s working very well! Feel free to connect we’re glad to help you out with this !

Depends entirely on the business, products and roadmap. I’ve started and advised brands on both doing $10M+ subscription and straight sale.

Always worth talking to Jordan Rolband in this situation though, that much I can guarantee.

Hey Brandon. fellow Funnel Hacker here.  We met before at FHL. Anyway, go WooCommerce and do it right. No sense in giving Shopify your company. they would basically “own” you. Do WooCommerce. takes a bit more set up and understanding, but why be owned by a platform? You will basically be in full control with WooCommerce on Wordpress. Message me anytime if you want to chat. All the best.

Okee so the conclusion is. It doesnt matter what you use . There are people who are successful with woocommerce and people with shopify. what matters is a combination of product offer and funnel. It like driving. It doesnt matter whether you drive a honda, mercedes a toyota or a bentley, it even doesnt matter if are sitting in a taxi or bus. You will get there anyway

A lot of huge businesses are on Shopify plus. I’ve tried different platforms but Shopify is still the best ecommerce platform for me especially the ease of use, payment integrations, sales calculation is more accurate in shopify especially the tax, website management/maintenance/security are also easier which is very helpful if you’re going to hire assistants to manage your store soon and you don’t have to worry about scaling as they are prepared for that as long as you have the budget to upgrade your plan. The only downside I see is the transaction fees they take. Woocommerce is great too especially if you’re a developer as you’ll have a full control compared to shopify and a lot cheaper than but there are a lot of work to do since it is just a plugin and not a hosted platform. But ofcourse the choice of platform alone can’t continue the success of the business.

What are you selling? what features do you need? do you have a team to do the dev? and maintain? Start there and then jump into considering the change. most Saas will solve a section of the problem to a point. If you have outgrowth the current platform you can think about options. If you havent. then what is the end goal? cut cost? how much. if you don't have a technical lead CTO or equivalent with a clear understanding of what your goal is. and your current situation (10M sounds good but what's the context). how much is your current tech costing the business. How many employees? what's being sold. etc etc. Your question involves more than just whats the cool or cheaper tool to use. your question needs more context

For a 10M+ I will choose safety. So Shopify or even better go for Magento 2. WooCommerce is easy to hack.

If a store is doing that kind of volume, the question should always be about integration. What platform gives you the widest assortment of integration to scale - this includes predictive forecasting, supply-chain inventory management (re-orders from vendors based on sell rate), crm integration for customer support. I have customers on Shopify, and to my freaking surprise, they do 15+m a year. And the debate is always, "should we move away from Shopify? " Then we look at the integration because things like bad supply chain means the customer looses $50k a month in sales; leaving it on the table. Whether you like it or not, Shopify has very mature hooks into large data warehouses, BI, sales analytics, DSP omnichannel MARTECH/ADTECH systems. Personally, I would build it myself from scratch. But I'd have to build in all the ingress/egress data hooks.
