Hi all hoping for a little guidance if possible! Please ignore the state of my current garden but since moving in ive not touched my garden and I hate it so much. I want to transform it into something nice but on a budget and low maintenance. It’s on a bit of a slope so whatever I do needs surfacing but does anyone have any good ideas for me? Any help would be appreciated I am clueless!

Paint the brick work, paint the fence, power wash the lock block, and slabs, lift old stones, level out, either put new stones down, artifical grass and some colourful pots.

If you want to reduce the gravel could you reuse it to make a path to the gate and then fill in the rest with grass, pots, borders etc.

Slope is barely noticeable so may not effect your garden re; leveling, if you put a garden bed there. Small tree(s) like crab apple would be nice. I looked up courtyard gardens on Pinterest and here is a few photos. Also with the lovely brick wall you can hang troughs. No drilling into wall.

I would plant a large shrub near the fence. (Better than a tree as the space is too small and a shrub can be cut back to keep it under control plus you usually get lovely flowers). I like gravel patios as they let the water through. You could plant herbs through the gravel because they like impoverished soil and it saves having to add expensive feeds plus herbs are cheap from supermarkets and are readily available from friends gardens. Saves money too. Beware of Mint though as it can be a bit rampant, so plant in a large container, you can always drop it into the ground. Plant climbers like clematis about a foot away from side fences and lean them. Ack to grow up on trellis attached the fences - this will allow you to unhook trellis for repainting fences even when plants are fully grown in the better weather. If you have plants and shrubs in your garden it helps absorb noise and will give you a more pleasant area to sit in, so a nice place to sit is important, even if it’s just with a cuppa, the joy of a gravel garden is you can move the seating anywhere and expand it for visitors without the fear of falling off a patio or decking. Hope this helps you, best wishes for your new venture.

Trellis with colourful climbers on the walls, the walls will be softened and become a feature, paint the fences maybe blue/grey/sage. lots of colourful pots, water feature, lay some turf, create a seating area. work with where the sun reaches, sketch a few ideas. try one job at a time. enjoy

@onwards fence pInt in a nice modern color looks good in a small garden. I particularly like dark grey which sets off green grass and plants beautifully. I have also seen pale pink looking lovely, very feminine.

@hooey I love these ideas but hate mirrors in gardens as the birds fly into them and break their necks. Although there are some that love to look at themselves in smaller mirrors. We had a chaffinch that spent days on our car, I think he thought the one in the mirror was the imposter.

Not sure how much you are planning to spend but my first ideas were : move slabs to one line on the right, bins to right hand side too. Attach fake green display (hedge pannels) to brick walls if allowed, on fence two poles and hanging buckets. Then either clean up gravel and grass the area or fake grass (just like a carpet without spending much) and few huge flower pots with lavender.

@skillless and if it's a fruit tree you can feed the planet and yourself, it's a win win result

Use the path down the right. Uniform the walls and fence with your favourite colour. If you want grass move the gravel to the sides keep weeds down. Plant grasses down the left. Large evergreen in the left corner or Acer small Japanese feathery tree. Sit back enjoy and say I did that x

I would move stones to bottom of garden, great burglar deterrent, artificial grass if you have children, paint walls, pots with plants and trees, hanging baskets, endless possibilities, good luck with all you do tho

Our terrace was a concrete garden I kept that as a base for the decking and artificial grass knocked out a border for tree to hide the walls and give privacy whist on the decking

The pre-planned gardens at Bluestone perennials, White Flower Farms, and High Country Gardens can be a great source of ideas! Always buy local, though, from small garden centers if possible, not big box stores.

I’d get rid of the shingle and get some nice slabs down or grass with a reclaimed brick path. with a raised planter against the wall on the left plant some ever green ornamental trees to give you some privacy. Then pots and wall planters on the other wall, maybe an garden mirror on that wall to to make the space seem bigger. it’s a lovely little space with lots of potential you just need to get a little creative try Pinterest for home made planters and try to recycle things to keep the cost down

Use the privacy the walls give you and plant some trees with lifted canopies like lolly pop style to block neighbours view from behind or grow climbers up back fence ( id love a courtyard garden

Just disguise the bins. Keep the gravel for now and get some pots and plant them up. Then get a little table and chairs add a glass of wine and use your imagination. It's a great space! X
