If you don’t do the base correctly - it will affect the whole building - and how long it will last. Never do a cheap base. You’ll pay for it in the end

Didn't think it was our place to judge. He only asked a question

@imphal36 I think it was the emoji he used that was offensive
by (280 points)
@imphal36 he was rude how can you not see that. if he cannot answer her correctly the he should have kept quiet instead of commenting on her budget ?
by (680 points)
@imphal36 he was rude! It's not anyone else's place to comment on what people buy and how they spend their money!

Bloke on here the other day said to go for eco pavers. I am getting a 6x6 summerhouse. Ecopavers and shingles would probably work out 80 to 100 quid

Ideally. A concrete base, however, heavy duty slabs laid on slabs will suffice

Dig base then some hard core compact it down with whacker plate you can hire then cement the slabs on using spirit level and line

Try and find a pic as long water doesn't seep through the wood needs solid base love

Depends what summer house you're having, if it is shed-like then a timber frame on bricks or slabs will be fine. Obviously for something more substantial concrete would be better

Cheapest is 2 concrete blocks every metre apart for it to sit on and put a membrane down around it under the summer house.

You can buy a plastic base from shed store. Level the ground lay the base and use pea gravel x

We’ve just been quoted £330 for a concrete base and advised that will be the best to make it last ❤️
by (1.7k points)
@rosaleerosaleen that’s not bad; what size is that?
by (960 points)
@mcrae Robinson 10m x 6m and 4 inch deep. It sounds cheap doesn’t it? They bring it and barrow it into the space too

My summerhouse is 13x14ft and it cost me £500 for a concrete base to be put in
by (610 points)
@ptarmigan0 bargain!

Cheapest would probably be a timber frame but the best would be concrete base. If you scrimp on the base and it isnt level or allows water to gather underneath and soak into the floor joists your going to have a whole host of problems.

@duodenary that's the size of a mobile home! X love it x
by (1.4k points)
@confession thanks. We love it too. It has a little kitchen one end to use for garden parties and a sleepover end for the kids to camp out
by (460 points)
@duodenary I just bought one that's big enough for two people to sit out in. It's mainly used for shelter whilst I take my dog down in the morning. Aww if ever I own a bigger garden I'll be getting one like yours. sounds amazing x

If it helps, I bought a ton of duff for about £40 and compacted it down and then stood the summerhouse on breeze blocks. It's been there 10 years and still fine, probably had 2 or 3 weeds in that time

My husband used gravel & recycled slabs concrete later because of the lockdown to hold it all together.

@mayo8172 this is the house the kids are buying me ❤️

The summerhouse is for my 11 year old creative artistic autistic daughter to keep her chilled during the lockdown. She already been in it listening to music and looking at the stars.

Build your own shuttering with some pine boards the size you need and order some spotmix. About £90 a cubic meter. So if you want it 200mm thick You'll be able to get 5 square meters.

But we raised ours, so wasnt straight from the ground, as my garden was not level at the top part, so was awkward, and we had to adjust few things to pass the building regulations ‍♀️‍♀️
