I bought some cheap round, crackled glass, individual hanging solar lights from the pound shop 2 years ago. I leave them where they are all year round and they are still going strong.

Invest in a charger that will recharge AA and AAA batteries. Take the batteries out of solar lights in winter, give them a charge and leave until the spring.

The best ones I've had that have lasted have been from Wilkos or Poundland. Theyve lasted longer than the ones ive bought from Garden Centres.

I've got two lantern lights that I got from the range 4/5 years ago and they're still going. We do take them in at the end of summer and take the batteries out. In the spring, I take the solar bit apart and give it a good clean (including the battery contacts) charge the battery on the battery charger, pop them back into the light and switch them on.

I have bought absolute loads. I have rechargeable batteries so have replaced them and charged them but it's hard work. and different voltage sometimes. I have loads dont work I just have them as ornaments  I had dragonflies, pelicans and ladybirds. I have kept them to scatter about all

It's because over winter there isn't enough daylight to charge the batteries, once the lighter nights kick in the lights come on again. Mine haven't worked since back end of October 19, now the lighter nights are back nearly all of them have come back on the ones that haven't just need new batteries.

I have bought cheap and expensive, none of them have lasted beyond a season, I've changed batteries, kept the solar panels clean but it doesn't seem to make any difference, so disappointing because i love the look of them when they are working, magical.

I buy the Mpow LED solar lights off amazon, they light the garden up like sunlight
by (1.2k points)
@apis which ones are they please Iv looked on amazon and there’s loads
by (2.8k points)
@apis I think I have them. They are amazing.
by (800 points)
@nosy Rooney yes these are very similar! For some reason the ones I bought are currently unavailable, but MPow do loads of different size lights and they are amazing. I put mine up towards the end of summer last year, so they didn’t charge as well as they have now and sometimes didn’t come on at night. they are motion sensored too!
by (2.8k points)
@apis mine are motion sensor too and put out a hell of a lot of light x

Mains powered are the way to go. All previous solar ones we’ve had haven’t lasted. We’ve got some mains powered ones, drilled a little hole out the garage, clipped them along the fence and I switch them via WiFi Alexa plug. Jobs a goodun

Solar lights are rubbish. They looks alright the first few days then look dull
+88 votes
by (1.1k points)
They have batteries the batteries die. Some people replace with normal batteries this kills tge lights quite quickly. However if you unscrew them put a normal battery in and cover the solar panel if they come on its the battery if they dont is maybe a connection. I just fixed my coloured bulb ones. It was a bit of metal not quite connecting.
by (1.1k points)
Sorry forgot to say if it is the battery order some more dont use normal ones permanently

Me too. I’ve just paid a small fortune for some that are both solar and usb powered. You can unscrew a section and charge them. They are fab. I’m really pleased with them.

I agree, they work, but badly! I’ve decided it’s because we don’t get enough sun in the uk to charge them fully. I’ve gone back to plug in or battery ones.
