Do you think you can have too many plants? I really love full looking borders with maybe just little pathways through the plants rather than all lawn/decking with a few plants. I think I might be overplanting but then surely everything just kinda finds it's place and settles? Can I see overflowing full of plants gardens please?

I love borders like this too. My lawn is only tiny. Only problem is some plants do get covered up and disappear so sometimes I do wish I planned more rather than just buying things I love at the time. I just can’t resist though ‍♀️

This is the first year I've really planted much and I'm now making myself stop as I think I need to let things establish and spread. I have no idea what I'm doing but my head is telling me not to over plant

I long for a full established border. I think all the sparsely planted photos you see on here are because they are only just done as well as the overwhelming focus on landscaping rather than the actual planting

@maraud5 I agree

I love that look though. It’s relaxed and more natural. Is there such a thing as buying too many plants!? You can always split and move things next year.

@vengeful421 I asked myself that question as I placed another order for three giant hostas

You can’t go wrong with a hosta. It’s good for well being

If you plant closely you get an effect straight away and also suppress weeds. You constantly have something to watch, a plant coming, blossoming or seeding. And additionally the bees and butterflies. This is where the calming effect and the challenge comes in, and also you're always a little humble, never quite taking the credit for a natural process you're guiding.

No, no such thing as too many plants! You can always move them around later if they end up in the wrong place.

This is one of my low maintenance ones - all spread and so suppress weeds!

I have gaps everywhere as I'm waiting for my Dhalias to come through which were huge last year, also my fuchsias/phlox still not bloomed, hate all the gaps, I'm so impatient

We have lived here for 2 and a half years and the garden was virtually empty when we moved in

@dispute24 is this England?

@peasant8 yes I live in Cornwall

@dispute24 your garden is beautiful. It reminds me of growing up in South Africa. Huge gardens, beautiful plants and lots of space
by (910 points)
@peasant8 thank you, we love our garden and it is still a work in progress. New beds will be going in when we can venture out to buy more plants

I love gardens like that! I've taken away part of my lawn and put in two huge beds. They're a bit sparse at the mo but hopefully in a year or two they'll fill out x

Country gardens look great. I like a bit of space as a sun worshiper but pack my beds that have got larger in time.

This is how we garden. We buy plants because we like them and then find a gap for them. The more the merrier.

As a non gardener I’d just say it’s your garden do what makes you happy! Most of gardens on here are just completed so plants are small but will bloom in time.

I'm new to gardening and have found I need to take plants out as they weren't really growing as too crowded. Am I the only one?

This is what it's like now, it just gets fuller as the season moves on. I have colour though out the year, I love it.

I prefer more plants than hard landscaping too. Everyone has their own taste. Do what you like it's your bit of paradise

I always get told off for being overgrown. This is the hacked back look! Gooseberries on their way. Stacks of rosemary and sage.

And a tonne of cornflowers I must have sown last year and forgotten about!

I've just planted up new borders so they will look pretty sparse for a while until the plants grow a bit. I love full borders but some plants don't like over crowding. I keep a lot of plants in pots and move them around to fill in any gaps
