How many times a year do they flower?
by (1.8k points)
@aguish86412 just once
by (610 points)
@nichol ☹ mine just flowered but they died so quick
by (1.8k points)
@aguish86412 that's the only thing about lillies, they just don't last very long! But you'll have more next year, mine double more or less each year. I love the smell!
by (610 points)
@nichol yes! I was in love with the smell while it lasted that's why I wanted them to come back. Guess I'll have to wait
by (1.8k points)
@aguish86412 you could always buy one that hasn't flowered yet from a garden centre  then you'd have even more next year!
by (610 points)
@nichol  love the idea, I just bought these though, my partner brought them home as they were blooming. Not all of them bloomed some died before blooming, but still it was beautiful and he bought like 3  I wouldn't have where to put them now

To early yet it has buds so you will have flowers, watch out for bright red bugs like a ladybird they destroy your lilies I pick them off and stand on them (sorry it’s the only wAy). I get them evry yea are if you don’t get rid your plant ends up a stalk only
by (500 points)
@maroon thanks I had a wee red bug on mine the other day never seen a wee bug like it before now I will watch out for them x
by (460 points)
@maroon omg I got them I just flicked them off what courses them. X
by (780 points)
@adamandeve30377 Reilly don’t know use to be able to buy a spray think it was called provado but not been able to get it anywhere now, I find the only way to deal with them is kill the red Beatles, and if you see the gunge on the leaves remove the leaves with scissors , I usually save my plants doing this x
by (780 points)
They are called Lilly Beatles in case you find something that deals with them x
by (780 points)
@adamandeve30377 Reilly don’t flick them off they just get back on the plants

by (1.8k points)
If it's already had flowers, then those are seed pods. It's early to have flowers outside, unless it's been forced in a greenhouse.
+54 votes
by (1.9k points)
They only flower once a year so if it’s already had flowers when you bought it this year you won’t get any more now but you will next year
by (510 points)
@fix71601 once a year! Cor, that's a long wait for a short joy.  (no clue on gardening. Brand new learner lol)
by (1.9k points)
It is but there so pretty and next year they should last a bit longer I’m guessing they’ve been force to flower early this year to sell them

by (2.1k points)
That looks like buds to me .? And slightly early for the flower . but they are there getting ready for you .
+24 votes
by (3.6k points)
If you've only just bought it they tend to sell them in bloom, but they only bloom once a year, you've a couple of buds left to open, but you won't get any more til next year. On the plus side if you take care & feed it, then next year it will be bigger & better. It's also why I buy the bulbs (& because it's cheeper) rather than the plants, plant it in a garden bed. You can still pick up Lillie bulbs at Wilkinson's, if you put them in now you'll still get flowers this year, just don't leave it to long.

Cause the weather is so good (very unusual)I think it’s playing with our minds and we are expecting all plants to come through early. I thought this but then realised things don’t come out till early June in my garden
+78 votes
by (760 points)
Do these come back every year and do you have to do anything or just leave them?
by (1.8k points)
@fixity55 yes just leave them to die off then cut back in the winter. Next year they will usually double so you'll have even more.
