If you're American then yes, your loft is a topfloor apartment, Our British loft is your attic, storage above the living levels of the home.

I don’t hide mine lol, they sit neatly behind the privet hedge between my drive and the pavement. I don’t think wheelie bins look untidy, better than a pile of rubbish x

Could maybe build something around them? We're lucky here as our driveway is at the back of the house past the back garden so we keep ours there. It's a pain bringing them all the way around the front on bin days though! Neighbors leave them out the front but the only place we could have them was under the window, and they stank!
