What do people use for keeping mosquitos type bugs away? We are in UK and seem to have swarms of them in our garden, especially around the trees after sunset and with this warmer weather we seem to be getting lots of bites off of them. I have ordered some citronella incense sticks and am going to make a garlic, rosemary and lime spray today to spray the garden with. Any other tips?

You could plant detterants, like citronella grass, chrysanthymums, mint, basil all around an area you like to hang out? Maybe put in pots so you can move them.

hey guys, Avon Skin so Soft, dry oil spray (original) I have heard is a great insect repellant. Will have a much better fragrance (if it has much? ) than those chemical ones I have some on order & it won’t break the bank to try! Safe for the children too

Citronella outdoor candles! Good for keeping wasps away when eating outside too. Worked so far for us. X

Thanks Sarah, hope you are well. We have two of the candles at the minute on the decking so we can light them when we go out to get in hot tub but think we are defeated by numbers. Hopefully with the spray and the incense sticks when they arrive we can start to enjoy evenings outside again xx

i think some people unfortunately are just susceptible to them? ♀️ I never get bitten but poor husband gets bite after bite and that's sitting next to each other where as they don't touch me! Unfortunately only thing that stops him from getting biten is spaying himself with insect repellent. Ohhhh how lovely you have a hot tub! Currently trying to convince the husband getting one would be a lockdown essential! He's having none of it! . We are good! Hope you are too. X

Eat less processed/white sugar and they'll leave you alone I was sceptical when I first heard this - but I have lots of standing water in my garden, so lots of mosquitos, yet I hardly ever get bitten. Experimented by eating sweets for a week and got eaten alive. Stopped eating sweets and after day one I didn't get bitten again!

Do you have any standing water or a water butt? A tsp of oil on top of a water butt will prevent them breeding out.

Just a heads up for all users of citronella, if you have any asthmatics in your family, it can be distressing for them.

I asked a week or so ago and it seems that there’s nothing much that can be done unless you attract other things to your garden that feed on them so bats, a wildlife pond etc. Getting rid of conifers will help but we won’t be doing this due to all the birds and squirrels that use them.
