Hello o saw this on a post ages ago and apparently mirrors can be confusing to birds and can cause them to crash In them. That being said, such beautiful gardens everyone! Oh the envy living in a flat

@foumart526 I have a big window and sometimes, birds just flew to it too. I think they will just do it once.
by (2k points)
@spermatophore De Paz off course once as dead now
by (1.4k points)
@whet I saw the birds still alive and just fly away. I live in a country side, we got so many birds in our garden as we got lots of trees. I never saw 1 dead bird yet.
by (680 points)
We get a few flying into our conservatory doors, the smaller ones tend not to survive ie broken necks  but larger ones starlings and pigeons do although they slightly dazed for a while, .
by (2k points)
@spermatophore De Paz that's just one you see. How many didn't you see hit the mirror. I had a bird hit my mirror then flew into the trees and stayed there for 2 days then killed over. So mirror came down only up for a week
by (1.4k points)
@whet well I have never seen a dead bird in our garden.
by (2k points)
So it's a case off got to see it it to believe it then
by (1.4k points)
Yup definitely. Our world is an eco-system. Animals eat animals like humans eat steak. If one died, the other will be fed. I don't have mirror in my garden, I don't know why you are in the mood of arguing with me. I just said my opinion that birds even flew to windows. Why don't you argue with the members here who got mirrors in their garden. @foliar you spend more of your time gardening instead of arguing people.

stayed in the tree for 2 day the keeled over lmao so the mirror/window didn't kill the bird as managed to fly off and sit in a tree for 2 days ‍♀️

First lockdown job for the other half was to frame this mirror lol. Been in my shed for 4 years . Not sure if it will be staying where it is yet as still working on the gardenx
by (610 points)
@fiddling Funny you say that my partners first job of lockdown was finish the bathroom which he started 3 years ago. Thats now done hes sorting the garden. The mirror looks beautiful
by (1.4k points)
@searcy9330 thank you. It's the one positive in this awful time isn't it! Our bathroom is next !

It has light on too
by (400 points)
@fiddling this is amazing. Where did you get the metal cactuses and the metal object in the bottom right from? X
by (1.4k points)
@bibber48 the cactus was from a stall at Countryfile at Blenheim. They have an online site. I'll try and search it for you. The sun is from a holiday in Spain years ago. It was a candle holder in the house and I stuck it in the garden years ago. Recently sprayed it with spray tin from Aldi 3. 99. X

@fiddling thank you, it’s looks lovely  x

@bibber48 thank you. I've not finished that area yet. I've found myself repotting and splitting plants plus moving things around since the lock down lol. Saved money lol x

@marelya4 I love your mirror it looks really good against the white wall too. I'm thinking of painting our garage wall white but concerned about it pealing. Does it need painting every year?
by (620 points)
@vincenza42188 Thank you. No not every year. This is a small area so not to much to much maintenance on it. I used exterior paint. Do it and enjoy.
by (2.5k points)
@marelya4 Thanks @yseulta & our wall looks about the same size as yours.
by (620 points)
@vincenza42188 great go for it. Once painted it doesn't take long to go over it if you have to.
by (2.5k points)
@marelya4 Oh that's good to know. I think I will need to wire brush it first to remove the remnants of an old ivy we removed years ago.

Be very careful with mirrors in gardens. We had someone who I used to work with who's house got set alight because of a mirror outside, home insurance refused to pay out.

Sorry hate mirrors in gardens. Not good for birds
by (1.4k points)
@whet hi can I ask why please? I've not heard this before. edit. Just read other posts. Will have to keep an eye out for that. Love birds
by (2k points)
@fiddling really birds don't see them as mirrors and fly straight into them. As all they see is a reflection big the garden
by (1.4k points)
@whet  I'll have to keep an eye out. The birds don't normally come up this end of garden as its right near the house. Plus next doors cat sits above on the fence  so all my feeders are the other end of garden.

@splenic16 gosh! Can we have another pic of this? Is it a bar in a shed and the train. This is fab!
by (630 points)
@dolmen50 its a bbq my husband made it, our garden is a memorial to my parents who loved steam trains, the shelter was built to protect the BBC and us from rain.
by (360 points)
@splenic16 I absolutely love it! I would be there in a shot to one of your bbqs. Well don’t your hubby. It’s really fab!
by (630 points)
@dolmen50 thank you, he is clever, the seats you can see at the front turn into tables with benches, everything is made from scrap and is his own design
