My husband finally agreed to get rid of his giant plastic cola bottle piggy bank, which I’ve been eyeing for a while for an upcycling project for the garden. I have a drill and will make plenty of holes at the bottom and would like to cut out some of the panels, use a garden fabric to line the bottle before filling with soil, then cutting out holes to put in the plants. I’d like some advice on how to grow something that I can plant up once and it will return every year, but not too bushy in growth, which would just quickly hide the shape of the bottle. I was hoping it would be hardy succulents (I’m in North London ), but not sure if they’d be ok being planted vertically (most succulent frames videos advise leaving them flat to root for 1-2 weeks, before hanging them), plus the watering may be a challenge with the bottle neck, so was thinking of putting in some kind reservoir using a hidden 2 litre plastic bottle with a few holes in the sides to make sure it doesn’t just go straight down and ignore the roots.? Any advice/suggestions please, thank you

When they have converted pipe to grow strawberries they've put thin plastic pipe with holes in the middle so that you can water from the top and everything gets watered properly

I don't think plants would do well just like small pots they need repotting. Maybe use for batteries fairy lights
