Which is the best grass to avoid mud? I know that drainage is important and my garden is actually ok but my grass is not thick and I feel like I could improve it. I have dogs so I don’t care about having a nice lawn I just want to hard wearing grass even if it doesn’t look tidy. Is sport lawn the strongest?

This time of year it will be thin anyway, in March/April over seed it with a hardwearing family lawn seed and include some micro clover seed  it will stay green throughout the summer with less watering and creates a nice surface to walk on (picture is an example of micro clover lawn, not mine)

I'm a pilot and have belonged to several flying clubs with grass runways. They all say that around 2/3rds grass, 1/3rd clover is the way ahead for a really hardworking surface (and trust me, the touchdown point of our main grass runway in winter, REALLY has to work hard. ) I believe that a proportion of rye grass is also common. I think that similar advice is common for playing fields - and advice online for what, say, to grow on your football pitch might be the best place to look.

@meow85 I understand that. It’s more for the future  I bought the house in 2018 and I haven’t done any maintenance of the lawn so I want to do it now and I was wondering the best one to use

@dita . Is it choclate coloured or lighter ? If lighter is it powdery? If you dig it when wet does it stick to your shoes or tools?
