Google says if I spend $2, 000 a month they’ll have a specialist setup my ads campaign. What’s the difference between this and paying a ppc specialist? What’s the advantages & disadvantages of each option?

They will probably just create a smart campaign and waste your money. A ppc specialist is more performance driven

so are they qualified? My experience in the past is tons of spam leads and poor quality placements. I have stopped using smart display ever since.

A specialist income depends on getting results. A Google rep gets paid regardless of results.

The google reps get paid for their idea of what results are good for you. Reality, half the time their metrics are terrible and not good for the client. Find a reputable specialist and grow your ad spend.

not 100% true i know many of you had bad experiences but try passing the google onboarding process and having an open internal resources and knowledge , also try running an agency without having your dedicated representative and tell me how it affects your business, I’m not saying that just as an x Googler but as an experienced google ads expert and digital marketer

Google's reps are sometimes ok but mostly terrible at understanding how campaigns make money. They are great however at following Google's instructions using your account to test new ways to get more money out of advertisers.

The main difference is a good specialist will setup & structure the account in a way that it can be easily optimized for ROI. Google reps will setup the account the way they were taught from Google which is usually the bare minimum (at least the accounts I’ve audited and cleaned up). Others have said it already. It basically boils down to one will do it properly and the other is a Goole employee.

After working in that office it is actually roulette. If you get a good builder they'll do well for you. If bad you are pretty much better off doing it yourself. Think of AdWords like blackjack, even the most experienced people won't win everytime but they at least understand the math to increase your chances.

Google reps are useless. We have a growth team with several people and never use them. The only thing they do is try and get you to spend more money, set campaigns up so Google has more control, or try new products that usually don’t work.

Google setting up an account provides bias to the set up. They have one intension only which is to make you spend more regardless of performance. Having said that it's free. You'd be better off learning basics of finding a good freelancer to at least do the set up.

The difference is most of the Google Reps that end up being really good, leave Google to get another job. Take your time and choose an agency to help you. Look for an agency that spends much more time learning about your business and goals and less time pitching you on how great they are. It's all about finding a good partner.

Even if they don't have experience in the field, from the first experience you have with an agency, you should feel as if the agency is actually listening to what you do. Nobody wants to feel like just another number.
