A question for the freelancers. Do you specialize in Google Ads or do you also offer Facebook Ads, Instagram Ads etc.? I have years of experience with Google Ads but it seems like everyone is looking for a freelancer that has experience with many different advertising platforms. Maybe I should start learning Facebook Ads? :)

Yes, you should. Because clients look for a paid media marketing expert unless they specifically just want help with Google. Definitely learn FB & Insta. And If you know Google Ads very well, FB & Insta are relatively simpler.

Thank you for the response. I'm glad to hear it's simpler! Do you have any recommendation of a good Facebook Ads course?

@autolysis Thank you now and later :D

Definitely offer, as these channels can be closely related and you can work them together. For example running remarketing on Facebook and prospecting on search

The worst thing you’ll do to your career is to become a generalist. There are many businesses out there that want what you offer.

I was hoping someone would say that :D I love doing Google Ads and I would love to stick to it but when I'm looking for jobs on Upwork, 90% of them are looking for Google Ads and Facebook Ads. Although I think Google Ads is complex enough to master, let alone all the other platforms. I'm not sure one person can be an expert in all of them.

I think I closed about 40 deals on UpWork for just Google Ads in the last 2 years. However, before all the occurred I applied to 90+ jobs on UpWork and everyone ignored me. It’s all about positioning and sales. UpWork does have a lot of tire kickers, but there are plenty who are sick and tired of jumping from freelancer to freelancer. They want to settle down with someone talented and most of all that can make them money. Instead of looking to learn Facebook. Learn how to help clients close deals, schedule appointments and find quality leads. That’s where the money is really at.

I'm new to Upwork and also get ignored after sending 30 or so proposals. I'm sure it'll get better after I land the first client there and get some reviews. I currently do white label for digital agencies and they often only need Google Ads so I'll probably stick to working with agencies.

@richelieu if you’re interested in seeing what I do send me a pm. I’ll show you the messaging I use to get clients. You can charge 2-3xs more without agencies.

@laurynlausanne I would like to chat too.

@se873 Shoot me a pm and I'll show you as well. I know how tough it can be to land the first few jobs on Upwork.

@laurynlausanne/activity" class="qa-user-link">laurynlausanne hey @laurynlausanne/activity" class="qa-user-link">laurynlausanne are you able to send it to me too? Sorry for butting in but would be an amazing opportunity

Google ads is one channel within paid media. Not being able to diversify and the maximize impact and reach of your clients dollars doesn’t shout specialist to me at all. Sounds more like a limited offering.

@laurynlausanne hey Daniel, would you be kind enough to share that those messages with me, too

I like to stay with Google mostly. However, this is Digital Marketing so I'd suggest knowing various programs but having a focus one as a specialist.
The Google AdWords Group is where you can always find questions, answers, advice, reviews & recommendations from other community members about successful search engine marketing (SEM) ads through Google AdWords.
