HELP needed!  Advice would be great!HELP needed! Advice would be great! Hi all. I am a freelance designer looking to get clients with Google Adwords, and I’m just starting out - no conversions, no data - just all alone on the platform ready to go. I have a few question for What bidding strategy do you use when starting out? I’m not really sure what the best practices are for bid strategies with fresh accounts. Thanks and hope to hear from you!

You have two options @murrelet2074 - 1) Get a big fat wallet and experiment with Google ads. 2) Run FB ads to a great article on your website, then retarget them with Google ads. There's more to it than that obviously.

Others can chime in as well but I tend to use Maximize clicks to begin with to get some data rolling in. Once it’s been running for a couple weeks, I’ll switch over to maximize conversions. I never use or have liked eCPC but I’d love to hear others opinions on that. I’m huge on smart bidding so manual isn’t usually my first pick, unless the client requests it.

I don't foresee google search ads working very well for a freelance designer. You'd 100% need to niche down to serve specific people (and therefore specific ads), but in my experience, design related cpc's are generally pretty high, and you'd want some money to play around with to figure out what works. If you have thousands of dollars to experiment with and get data, I could see it being viable for a long-term strategy, but long-term is the important part. Could work: Ad -> Lead Magnet / Get Free Consult -> Sale (new client) Won't work: Ad -> Sale Despite the competition in the ad space for design work, I've seen some surprisingly low-competition opportunities in the organic search space. I recommend looking more into this.

LP design does so much of the heavy lifting, it may be worth looking for some ad-specific people in here to partner with, as getting conversion-focused and good looking pages up could be a bottleneck. Food for thought.
