Curious to know in a competitive industry how many companies run google ads? I run my own ads for my business. There is about 6-7 local companies that run ads as well. Only about half of them run them consistently. Just trying to get a gauge on other industries because i think even with the few competitors I have cpc is still high.

Ya a lot of construction based industries are high. I have a waterproofing/foundation client that’s $40 on average.

All these metrics don’t truly matters. As long as you can make more per customer and make it so you can afford to outspend your competition, you’ll always win. If all your Competition is able to afford is one dollar per click, make is that your company is able to afford two or three dollars per click and monopolize those ads

So essentially if one competitor sets an unrealistic amount per click of let’s say $100 when the click is only worth $20. He throws off the entire bidding system?

@thermostat no, because you always 1 cent more than the competition below you. So if their bid is $100 and yours is 1$, they will pay $1. 01 The issue is if everybody keeps raising bids. At least, this is the way it used to be. Now with smart bidding, it is way more complicated, but still the auction should work the same

What are the odds with 7 local competitors? See my point?

@flatt as I mentioned, lots of inputs. I would guess there is low quality score, which affects your bid. There can be many reasons for that. I would start with quality score, which gives you a good starting point. Then I would look into what are the average bids for those KWs (using KW planner). Next thing is your optimization, smart bidding has flexible bids :)

Only worry about being profitable. The biggest issue with google ads is some competitors are ignorantly willing to spend more to be first ad. Just runs the CPC up for everyone.

Just smash gmail ads at 1p per click open.
