Tried a Gmail Ad yesterday, only got about 20 clicks to my site, and Google charged me for 2, 231 clicks? I thought you only pay when people open the email ad and click the CTA to the site.

In a Remarketing role added on top of an email list. They work like a charm for me.

Just like @lookin states. They work great if you create a custom audience. Use your clientlist and create a audience. Use them as remarketing campaigns when by example you have a special offer. Works great that way.

@andri, if you go by product sold. An the product is lets say a limited use time item. You can go without promotions I think.

There are 2 clicks on a gmail ad, the first and then the click to site. you get charged on the first click. looks like there's a disconnect between your first click and your second

You need to re-do your ad. something is making people click the first one but not the second one.

How strange that it's written in Google Ads Help.

You aren’t charged when people interact with your expanded ad. You’re only charged once—for the click that expands your ad in the first place. This is what says and means that you pay for the first click as it expand your ad

The click through from the ad to the landing page is always extremely low compared to the click to expand the ad. It is a waste of money if objective is to drive traffic to site. It works better for brand awareness.
