I run them as a test but often I find I get better results without them. Only downside is it seems google gives you more impressions when you have them enabled

@cramer Yep I’ve noticed that too. Impression share goes up 10% when I use them

@cramer Interesting didn’t know this.

@entreaty Yes you'll notice that the RSA will get about 70% of the total ad group impressions in many cases

Use them in conjunction with expanded text ads. Some accounts they have a better ROI, others they don’t.

@chuckle same with us but eventually RDAs have overtaken the ETAs so we’re prioritizing these going forward. In the financial vertical.

I'll suggest to use it after running 1-2 months text ads, see your most used search terms, and use these search terms in heading of responsive search ads copies as titles. You will get better results with low cost.

Works well for service base businesses in my experience. Always mix them with ETAs

Tested them extensively. Usually, the most shown combination is roughly identical to the already existing winning ETA.

@rosebud Does Google pull that data from your Search Campaigns?

For the most part, it’s a slower way to get to where active testing would take you. If you don’t have time to test, it’s better than letting bad ads just run.

If you use them, don't forget to use the pinning feature. Ad layout and design really impacts CTR and quality score so I highly recommend using it.

@cramer yes always pin first headline

Use the pinning strategically. im currently testing it to see if does work better than no pinning at all.

@proctology Be sure to share the results. I’d like to see the data outcome.
by (1k points)
@proctology it would be interesting to see if that makes a measurable difference.

Also curious to see the results on this!

Not sure if good time to test during this Covid lockdown period but we shall see if it does work better than no pinning at all. Traffic is so much lower now. :(

@proctology is agree on this. Also users minds are very much in research mode not buying. I’ve used pinning and it was variable on results. My normal text ads mostly won through but my CTR rates are very high - not tried on less successful accounts.

I use them, but they are only there to support my search campaign. I wouldnt use them on their own.

I like them BUUUUUUT hate how you can't see which headlines, descriptions, etc are actually driving conversions. Unless I'm missing something.

Have you people saying "responsive is the bees knees" seen half of the barely literate garbage that Google has put out there with your clients' brand attached to it?

RSAs are usually used as an exploration tactic for accounts with large budgets. You would create one RSA per adgroup in addition to ETAs. RSAs will help you win more auctions and therefore mine more search terms.
The Google AdWords Group is where you can always find questions, answers, advice, reviews & recommendations from other community members about successful search engine marketing (SEM) ads through Google AdWords.
