I work in the translation sector in Spain and I've noticed that a lot of companies are renting out virtual offices (unstaffed by their own employees, i. e. an agreement with a coworking place that gives them a local phone number, a post service and someone at the reception) and then listing this as an actual office on Google MyBusiness and using this to place local ads. On the first page of Google 75% of the companies listed are using this "fake local" strategy to look like they are a local company and therefore garner more business. I didn't really realise this until recently. Is this something that happens in other sectors, such as marketing? I've reported one of the ads to Google, but they've not taken it down. Thx

MyBusiness guidelines state that companies need to have in-face interaction between employees and clients at the addresses
