Wondering how folks chose their goal weights? I set a goal I thought might be realistic to maintain but am considering going lower. My loose skin bothers me and I am worried it will get worse. Maybe I will try maintenance for a bit and see how it goes.

My goal is body fat percentage and not pounds. I found that my goal in pounds left my body fat too high, so my goal is to get to less than 35% body fat. I did IP 4 years ago and lost 65 pounds, but my body fat was still over 35%. Over the course of last year I gained 20 pounds and my body fat went up to 44%. This has changed my whole perspective on weightloss, so I'm walking 2. 5 miles at least 5 days a week, and doing yoga 3x a week. I don't really look at pounds, but I am watching body fat. I'm 63 years old and my doctor said below 35% is healthy for my age.

@dickens26 yea, 1995 can only be found in pictures these days.  I try to focus on healthy goals rather than pounds and inches, but that dang mirror keeps slapping me in the face.

@dickens26 that’s how I determined my goal weight. The last time I felt good about how I looked was in 2002 before lots happened in my life. The added stress also added weight. So, that’s my start goal. We’ll see from there.

Some say 10% of your current weight is a good goal to start with. I remember being 165 a year ago so that’s my goal (I’m 183 now) but it’s also so much more than just numbers on the scale. I want to fit into my fave jeans again.

I do have lots of loose skin but I've lost a lot of weight. Occasionally I'm distracted by the skin but I always go back to how good it feels to wear a size small or XS and it's worth it to me. For me it's become a reminder of how far I've come and an incentive to keep it off.

Google it. There’s a chart that has height and ideal weight.

My doc said BMI of <27. So that gave me a weight range. BMI currently 24. 27 end for my height. I wanted a cushion.

If my lean mass stays fairly constant, 150 will be a healthy BMI for me. My body currently likes 180. I have been 180 for about 6 months. Lately I have gotten lazy and sloppy because it seems like it doesn’t matter what I do. Gotta get my head back into the game.

My goals changed as I went through the process. Initially I just wanted to get below 200. I started out at 282 and that alone seemed impossible. Then after I hit that I decided to go to 170 and then 150. My current goal is to hit 50% of my overall body weight which would be 141 lbs lost in one year. Currently about 4 lbs from hitting it (even while in semi maintenance) but only a couple of weeks before that year is up. I’m interested and anxious to see what my comfort weight will be.

Question for you: I'm having this mental block about getting under 200 and keep sabotaging myself. (I started at 300 probably more. ) I get to the 220s, which was my high school and middle school weight, but once I get toward the 210s I sabotage myself. Was breaking 200 difficult for you?

@raman68 I started on 2/26 of last year and it took until July to get just below 200. It seems like it was harder for me to get from 200 to 170. I think what your describing is common for people that lose a lot of weight. To me it was almost like an identity issue. I know who I am when im over weight and have a hard time identifying with the new me. I felt it a million times. Heck I still feel it some days when I look in the mirror. It’s your comfort zone. My MD was actually studying weight loss and asked me the question about how I identify with myself. She then proceeded to say that her study showed that people who have been over weight for a long time (me probably 30 years) have a very hard time dealing with extreme weight loss. She actually suggested counseling. I’m not sure if that answers your question but maybe your having some of the same issues and don’t realize it. I can tell you though-power through it is definitely worth it!

Going for size, not weight. I targeted 50 lbs, but If I get to a size 9 or 11 I’ll be happy.

My coach was not helpful when it came to this. I didn't know anything about this program and it was like, pick a number, it doesn't matter. So for now, I chose a weight.

My original goal was the lowest of been since betting an adult. When I got there my goal was my college weight. When I got there, I didn't make a real goal in my head like I should have and I've been struggling. I think thegoals should be something you're comfortable with and that you think is reasonable. It could be a weight, a BMI, a percentage of loss, a piece of clothing, etc.

Set my first goal at 50pds. I am worried about the skin issue also. BMI wise - I should lose a total of 100 but I dont trust BMI. I am 5'11 and even when I was a twig, I sat on the borderline of normal to overweight

I intentionally did not choose a goal weight but rather a goal size, I started at size 22, I'm at 18 now and I believe I'll be happy between 10-12
