We used fruit loops lol. He aimed at them and each color was worth points. Each time he hit a certain "valued higher" color he would earn points towards a snack.

@boykin8 we started at 18 months. He picked it up really quickly

Amazing! This gives me inspiration for my two year old, he was into it right before his birthday. then terrified. Now he’s started going again just once before bed

@boykin8 I created a points board. And I totally celebrated when we would go in and "try" I always started with. let's play a game when you need to go potty. His reward was always ice cream lol.

I personally like the toilet seats you can buy with little seat built in Bc it doesn’t slip around and don’t have to take something on and off all the time. I used a small potty with my first and regretted it Bc he was then scared to sit on the real toilet for awhile lol

Same! We had to cart around the little potty we trained him on for like 6+ months and it got so annoying.

Step stool to the toilet if it’s too tall, and a small seat to hold them so they don’t fall it. Also keep a bag of fruit loops or Cheerios (any cereal) to put a couple in the toilet for them to aim at and keep their attention on peeing in the pot.

Step stool to the toilet and a basket of underwater in the bathroom. It’s ok to use a potty chair but eventually getting them to go onto the big potty is ideal. No pressure. It often becomes a control issue if it becomes to stressful.

I definitely suggest a step stool and a toilet seat on the actual toilet. That way, your son does not have to transition from a mini potty to the actual toilet. It just makes everything easier and no cleanup.

Make sure it has the splash guard on the potty seat. I trained 2 girls before having a boy so had potty seats without the guard and my son was constantly peeing out of the potty. I bought one with the guard bc I was tired of cleaning pee off the floor even though he was sitting on the potty

I started with a potty on the floor and my son prefers the one that sits in the toilet. I just got the $10 munchkin one off of amazon. :) hes wearing underwear after 1. 5 weeks of training

Our doctor told us just to use the regular toilet and not a separate potty. We did purchase a child seat that goes on top of the toilet to keep him from falling in. The cheerios trick also helped as well. Going back to the comment about letting the daycare do it. Don't do that. We went for a very long time with my son in pull ups because he was at daycare full time. I would make some great progress with him over the weekend and then he would go back to daycare and all my hard work would be gone in a day. I was able to take him to daycare on Monday's wearing training underwear and I would not leave the pulls at daycare to make sure they were taking him potty and not cheating. I would pick him up and he would be wearing diapers, which were from another child. I had many conversations with them about their lack of help in that area. After what seemed like a long time, months, maybe about a year. I finally had enough and I took a two week vacation and dubbed it potty training boot camp. I worked with him all day, every day for two weeks and he never went back into pull ups again.
