Our doctor told us just to use the regular toilet and not a separate potty. We did purchase a child seat that goes on top of the toilet to keep him from falling in. The cheerios trick also helped as well. Going back to the comment about letting the daycare do it. Don't do that. We went for a very long time with my son in pull ups because he was at daycare full time. I would make some great progress with him over the weekend and then he would go back to daycare and all my hard work would be gone in a day. I was able to take him to daycare on Monday's wearing training underwear and I would not leave the pulls at daycare to make sure they were taking him potty and not cheating. I would pick him up and he would be wearing diapers, which were from another child. I had many conversations with them about their lack of help in that area. After what seemed like a long time, months, maybe about a year. I finally had enough and I took a two week vacation and dubbed it potty training boot camp. I worked with him all day, every day for two weeks and he never went back into pull ups again.
