Mamas- talk to me about Nintendo Switch. What do I need to know? Do your kids like it? They enjoy the Wii now, but are getting a little bored of it. (Kids are 6. 5 and almost 5).

My girls have a Nintendo switch. they use it for fort nite and YouTube. Sometimes Mario Cart. There’s a fun dance one too. I can’t remember the name! My kids are also into Roblox. which the switch doesn’t support. For the most part. We like it!

My 4 year old had a blast with it for the 4 days we had it until he cracked the screen.  he has used an iPad even without a case and had no issues. So he won’t be allowed to use it for some time now.

Love it! We got it when the kids were about to turn 6 and still love it two years later. Mine love all things Mario or sports games. I love that we can add extra controllers (we have 6 total) and the kids’ friends can bring them if we need more. Also during this time we’ve been using online play to play with their friends.

Okay, stupid question here. For them to be able to take it and play, say in the car, do you need the Nintendo switch lite?
by (2.4k points)
@mindexpanding no, both versions a portable. The full switch version has removable controllers that allow you to play with more than one person and on the tv, the lite is handheld console only.

@mindexpanding the lite and the regular switch are both portable. If you also want to be able to plug it into the tv, you need the regular switch. The lite is only for handheld use.

Thanks. So if I have two boys who want to play on tv and around the house at the same time, I could get the regular switch and then one lite?
by (830 points)
@mindexpanding just abheads up there is no way you are getting a regular switch anytime soon. They are sold out in Australia, the UK, amd the US due to the pandemic and homeschooling. I was looking for one myself and an online search for a 350 mile radius came up empty. There are a few switch lites available in stores, though.

Also, your best bet is to buy one portable switch lite for now and have them take turns. You will eventually want to get the regular switch console so it can be tv compatible as well as portable and able to play multiplayer games. good luck!

@protohistory thanks for the info. I’m not in a rush for one yet, thankfully. Putting the feelers out for potential future gifts.

We love it but always causes a fight in our house when they want to play single player games like Zelda, Minecraft, and Animal Crossing (my kids are 7. 5 and 5. 5) but Super Smash Bro’s and MarioKart are great as collaborative games! I wouldn’t say it’s much different entertainment wise than the Wii though.

My 13 year old has the lite and 7 year old has the regular switch. My 13 year old loves his lite. Not as heavy or bulky as the regular switch.

My kids love it! Ages 3 and almost 6, but it’s very addicting and hard to get them interested in anything else these days

We just got our hands one after much searching and it is amazing! It is a wii essentially but with new games. I suggest the normal over the lite as it can plug into the tv and have up to 8 players. Games are bit pricey but good quality
