Any tips for me mamas?! My 20 month old daughter hates to get her diaper changed and it’s getting worse everyday. I don’t think she’s ready for potty training, but I could be wrong? Ideas? Suggestions on what to do? Thank you!

Doc said to give option of being changed on floor or table. I’d say it works 50 percent of time

@lavonlavona I’ve tried a lot of things but I don’t think I’ve tried asking her this!

Doc said it’s all about control. I rolled my eyes but it’s totally true! I couldn’t believe I was asking my 18 mo old where she preferred to be changed

Yes! I need to focus on the “control” aspect. cause distraction doesn’t work, singing songs doesn’t work, holding her down doesn’t work!

I need advice too - this was tonight - screaming because she didn’t want her diaper on - I couldn’t flip her

I have a 20 mo old too and she’s just trying to be miss independent. I just give her my phone or the remote to hold to distract her.

She’s probably not ready. My daughter did this too for a while. I tried many things including my husband helping me gently holding her for a few seconds. It passed. Eventually.

My son is the same age and it’s the worst  he hates when I change him but at daycare he smiles and laughs while getting his diaper changed

We count because its the wipes that makes mine freak out. So we count how many wipes and say 1 more before the last one. It shortened the screaming to just during the wiping instead of the whole process. So I show him the wipe and say ready, one, two, one more and all done!

I don’t think she’s too young! You could definitely try potty training. Now is the perfect time because you don’t need to go anywhere so you can really commit to her being successful. I’d say do some reading first so you are prepared and go for it!

My 20 month old son does the same! He HATES getting a diaper change. I always get a death kick straight to the stomach when I lay him down

I totally remember this phase. Even with poopy diaper, complete melt down over a diaper change. It passes.

Sing a song together, give a small toy to distract. This will be over soon.

I used to give my son something he normally wasn't allowed to play with- room thermometer, ear thermometer, nasal aspirator, random remote ‍♀️

@earthquake3 Eadon we do the same thing! He loves holding the diaper cream (which he can't open) or just the clean diaper which he won't let go of, so I grab another to use :)

Potty train! My son was potty trained at 14 months and my daughter is going to be 2 in June but has been potty trained since she was 16 months. It’s totally doable!
