Ladies thinking of going for a drive( long drive) for an hour or so, where we don’t have to get out of our car. Where do you think we can drive?

They really don’t want you going for a drive because that could potentially be a drain on emergency services if you got into an accident or needed roadside assistance. And just the extra traffic will require police to patrol more, at a time where they are getting sick too.

@nadene66854 you are right

^ This. Currently under a Shelter in Place order. Means just that. All non essential outings are prohibited. They are even policing this in Chgo!

@nadene66854 yep! Also, my friend who works at a hospital in a more northern suburb has had coworkers followed and pulled over by the police going to work, so they have to carry papers.

Take the back roads to Starved Rock. it’s closed, but some scenic points.

@sulfapyridine thanks
by (8.9k points)
@elation you are welcome. Hope you have a nice drive.
by (900 points)
I'm from Ottawa. only 10-15 minutes away from Starved Rock, so I definitely agree with this.
by (10.6k points)
@sulfapyridine So it’s nice even when closed? I know buildings are closed but can you still get in?
by (8.9k points)
@paternal no, you cannot get in, but the back way through it is gorgeous. if you drive through Ottawa and go up the road that follows the back of the river.

Great idea. However, I am scared to step out of my town. Anyone stopped by cops?
by (4k points)

@asis4 I know, I really hope what we are doing now in the US has a positive affect! My cousin is miserable because he runs for physical and emotional reasons and can’t even do that. I also think they are much more strict in cities than in suburbs.

@orthognathous yes Italy is in total lockdown-can’t even go out for a walk. It’s terrible for everyone i know there-I hope it doesn’t get to that point here. I consider myself lucky to have a yard and still be able to go for short drives with the kids(just in the Naperville/lisle area).

I know, I feel the same.

Route 47. Take it south or north. Nice drive either direction, easy and fairly scenic. I prefer the south drive. Or historic Route 66. More of a historic component but fun to say you did it for an hour at least ☺️

@lola37 thank you

I really want to also but I am scared of getting pulled over.
by (810 points)
@bellwether2692 cops would never pull you over. I take long drives everyday, aimlessly driving around the county. Play my music, talk to my kid, get a coffee at the drive thru. It saves my sanity. 10/10 would recommend

Make sure you won't have to go to the bathroom.
by (6.8k points)
@cark2777 Truth! I had to take a drive to bring my kids to their dad’s house. Many gas stations are closing their bathrooms. So while you could stop for gas, you may not be able to use the bathroom if you need to. I tried one. Theirs was closed but they sent me to one nearby that was open. They told me it’s common so that the employees are less exposed.

@cark2777 my thoughts exactly!

We just went for a local drive and went down Royce Rd and saw some horses!  might be fun for kids
by (9.8k points)
Is Royce Rd open all the way to 53? Was wondering if the bridge work was still going on
by (760 points)
@ayer. Royce is closed from Green to 53. But you can take Green up to 75th

@verboten Thanks! That’s what I assumed. Glad they are finally doing something about the flooding problem.

I know it is hard, but non essential travel is currently banned. You can get pulled over. Maybe watch a travel show or a movie?
by (2.9k points)
@rye37285 pretty sure cops aren’t just pulling people over to check where they’re going! Plus, if they’re not coming in contact with anyone, what does it matter? I had a prenatal appt the other day and it felt SO good to drive again, let the windows down, see the (local) world again. Being kept inside this entire time isn’t good for anyone. At least they’re not asking to go to a store for Easter stuff! Now THAT is unnecessary travel.
by (3.9k points)
@rye37285 just because they won’t get pulled over, doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do.
by (240 points)
@behindhand23 Wilder Sarah, "being inside isn't good for anyone" ? Are you kidding me? It's good for everyone! That's why it's a mandated order! It's saving a lot of lives!
by (7.7k points)
@rye37285 ah nope
by (2.9k points)
@milagrosmilam you can still go outside  Like your back or front yard. Or for a drive with your family like this poster was asking about. Tell me you have stayed *inside* the house every single day? And if so, no that is not healthy. You don’t need to be around other people to get outside!
by (16.3k points)
@behindhand23 Wilder my friend who works at a hospital in another suburb has to carry papers because she has coworkers that have been followed and pulled over commuting to work. (Could be at odd times perhaps, but they have been pulled over nonetheless)
by (2.9k points)
@mathison Andersen yes, many/most essential businesses have those types of letters. But you could just as easily say you’re going to the grocery store *if* you get pulled over and don’t have that type of documentation. I’m not saying people aren’t getting pulled over at all, but think of it logically - for police officers, every encounter is “risky” when dealing with the public. Do you really think they’re going to be pulling people over just to check where they’re going? If so, must have been a really bored cop! Or, like you said, at odd hours.
by (21.9k points)
@milagrosmilam not anywhere has it been “mandated. ” In fact, staying active outdoors is encouraged.

They will not pull you over. a lot of essential workers got those papers including my husband and other family. Driving has not been "banned", and being outside is NOT frowned upon by law enforcement. Only by people who do not understand the guidelines in place. There are ways to go about everything in a safe manner. Is it smarter to just go walking jogging biking etc than driving? Probably. But no, it hasn't been banned. the most unhealthy thing you couk3d do right now mentally and physically is hunker down indoors and be afraid of going outside. You NEED the sun and fresh air. Id you are confused by the guidelines for going outside in public places, please read up on it before commenting on these public pages. Good luck all.

We drove to Dell Rhea's Chicken Basket, ate dinner in our van in their lot and drove back. It helped our mood sooo much and the kids loved it! They keep talking about eating chicken in the van

What is wrong with non-essential driving, as in how is it not social distancing? Is it banned all over Illinois or only Chicago?
by (4.4k points)
@paternal non essential driving can actually work against social distancing. If you get into a car accident, need road side assistance, stop for gas, to use the bathroom. And it causes the police departments to strain their forces to police the roads more. And the police have pretty high infection rates because they are out in public. It’s state wide.

We take drives all the time. My daughter can’t get her license because DMV is closed so we just drive around and enjoy the less congested roads. There’s no bans, police are not pulling people over. I received this information from an NPD officer, for whom I bought coffee.
