Buttonwood. Close to downtown, amazing district 204. My family has been recently going through a health crisis with my husband and neighbors and people I never met even have been giving us so much support and help.
by (7.2k points)
@nonbelligerent34817 yes! Buttonwood is the best! Or west wind / countryside. We take care of our own. Tons of kids, close to May Watts, the lake and Buttonwood Park. We love it.

Not to offend to anyone in the area, but Longwood Elementary was awful! Just FYI I’d stay away.
by (430 points)
We ended up sending my daughter to Clow elementary and it’s was great!
by (1.2k points)
What was bad about your experience at Longwood?
by (430 points)
@cheddar we had several incidents with the principal/teachers. For example: a boy putting his hands down my daughter’s pants, and the teacher didn’t even tell me. The principal assured me it didn’t happen, then when the teacher did confirm, the principal wouldn’t even return my call. They also had such poor testing scores we were able to select a better school to send her to. We moved from the area.

GLEN ELLYN! JUST MOVED 2 WEEKS AGO. GREAT SCHOOLS IN WALKING DISTANCE. GOOD LUCK ON YOUR SEARCH
by (1.2k points)
What district is that?
by (780 points)
@cheddar district 41
by (780 points)
Schools was a huge thing when we sold our house and moved somewhere with great schools. My daughter isnt yet but will be next year so I wanted to have better for her. I would look into it if I was you. Alot of moms I spoke with said nothing but amazing things about the schools.
by (1.2k points)
@renn384 Jasionowski you think district 41 is better than 203 and 204?
by (780 points)
@cheddar I haven't heard much about district 203 im sorry. If i hear anything from other moms ill let ya know.
by (310 points)
@hupp693 we have lived in glen Ellyn for the past four years and LOVE It. We looked at elmhurst, Naperville and oak park before settling here. I don’t think you’d regret it Christina. We love the smaller town feel and community. Young family’s and amazing school district. We are moving back to Omaha this summer for more help with our young kids and will be selling our home walking distance to Ben Franklin elementary. You’re welcome to PM me if you’d want to come this direction. We are so sad to go!

There are a few houses for sale very close to the school. Not sure the rules on fences. There are some houses with fences so assuming they are allowed.

Not sure if this matters to you but district 203 start time for Grades K-5: is 8:15 a. m., dismissed 2:30 p. m. whereas 204 9:05am - 3:35pm.
by (1.2k points)
I am NOT a morning person so 204 is winning for that reason alone.
by (8.2k points)
@cheddar It also matters whether or not your kids are morning people. I'm not a morning person either, but my daughter gets up at 6am so waiting until 9am to go to school would have been very difficult for both of us. We're in 203 and I like getting out at 2:30 since there's more opportunity for after school activities like classes and music lessons. It's personal preference that needs to work for the entire family. Sometimes the 9am start is a problem for people that work. Look for a subdivision where you can walk to a park. It's a life saver in the summer.
by (1.2k points)
@midtown10 my husband and I both work from home and are very busy between 1-5 so getting out at 330 would also help us a great deal.

I would look at all of these suggestions on a map, and compare that to where you or your significant other may need to commute to. That’ll help narrow it down.
by (1.2k points)
We are lucky we both work from home so commute is only a few steps ;)
by (4.2k points)
@cheddar that’s great! You might still want to look at commutes in case that ever changes. Naperville is huge and if easy access to highways or trains is important there are definite areas where that is feasible and areas where it isn’t.
by (1.2k points)
@eustoliaeutectic Thanks! After working from home for 7 years I don't see me ever going back to a 9-5 ;)

We have two littles (age 4 & 2) and love Ashbury. There is an amazing pool included with HOA fee, a biking/running/walking path through the neighborhood, a pond, and tons of young families and social events. We are D204 and about 15 minutes to downtown Naperville. We really like it here. Tons of shops/restaurants/gyms within minutes of the neighborhood. Bike trail leads to library and also a new splash pad that will be opening. Only downfall is little longer hike to train station but my husband only commutes 2x a week. Good luck on your search!

Indian Hill West - we are a tiny little hood north of Bauer west of Washington. All schools are walkable but also provide a bus, my kids bus to Mill and walk to Jefferson. my husband walks to the train. 5 minutes from 88. The elementary school bus fills up in just the three stops in our hood. Lots of families and just overall friendly atmosphere.  good luck, it’s hard to pick, lots of good choices here.

204 Neuqua school district, south Naperville. Most of the subdivisions have elementary schools within walking distance, some mentioned above! A lot have community pools too. Also check out: Ashbury, Harmony Grove, Prairie Crossing, many more too! A lot of people have invisible fences, but we wanted a fenced in yard too. That is easy to put in, we did after we moved in.
