I just found out today my insurance company is dropping me because of all my 17 years of driving, I had 2 bad accidents which both happened in the past year (neither my fault - the other drivers were cited at the scene, one was found at fault in court, and insurance both times said not my fault too). Oh and a speeding ticket in 2011. they threw that into their reasoning too. Any recommendations? Must be good at paying out claims in case this nightmare bad luck streak isn’t over yet. And don’t you dare say State Farm!

I love Country! I’ve had several major accidents that were never my fault and they were always great. Will never switch to anything else.

@chefoo430 I’m glad you’ve had a great experience! Did you see the announcement today for 15% return of your monthly premiums for 2 months due to Covid?
by (4.2k points)
Also agree with Country. After a 2nd accident in a year my rates went up and I had to go on a special type of insurance but went right back to my regular low rates after a certain time frame.

Another vote for Country Financial. Amazing company to work with.

That happened with my husband. Hit and run twice in a year (3 years ago) insurance dropped us. We went get different insurance with local insurance instead because any nationwide insurances costs more money with accident records. Now we’re clear with those records.

I have State Farm lol but I just wanted to give you some info. Another teenager rear ended my at the time 17 year old. I called State Farm and they were going to process the claim and then collect the $. I said no. I only went thru their insurance company. It took me a little longer but I never sent anything to State Farm so it wouldn’t go on my teen’s record. I’ve heard even if it’s not your fault that it goes on your record. Just letting you know if there’s a next time which I hope there isn’t! Just in case try to do what I did. Best of luck and it stinks when it’s not even your fault and you get penalized.
by (8.9k points)
@drunk The first accident the other driver had State Farm too, so they had us each file a claim on our own policies for our own cars. My car was totaled then. Second accident was my new car $16k in damages with me and my son in an ambulance, so I didn’t talk to the other driver and get their insurance. I had to use mine to get everything started. I got his info from the police report a week later. Looking back on it, that’s what I probably should have done, but I was definitely not at fault so I didn’t think it would count against me. Lesson learned!

State Farm Dropped me after I was hit by a semi. Not my fault. And they dropped me. Like a good neighbor my ass. I’m with Allstate now, absolutely no complaints. Luckily, I haven’t had any accidents, and hopefully won’t either. It’s affordable, and I have full coverage.

We recently we had two bad accidents with one of them caused due to the owner of a property guiding traffic in the wrong direction and Progressive placed at fault for the second one and technically they shouldn’t have and wouldn’t even go after the property owner even though we had statements to prove it was their fault. They increased our rates by triple so I called everyone and kept getting denyed until I found Andy with Farmers insurance. He was amazing and got us cheaper insurance with Farmers sister company. He worked through all the hassles and always calls for our upcoming bill that is due and helps with whatever you need. He’s also not a broker so he doesn’t make any commissions which cause rates to go up as well. Here’s his contact information.  .

@ambler35926 have you had to file any claims? I’m just nervous my bad luck steak isn’t over and for as terrible as this is that State Farm dropped me, their claims handling was quick and relatively painless all things considered.
by (1.5k points)
@mclaughlin3846 unfortunately yes. I was in an accident in 2016, I was at fault. My rates didn’t even go up dt accident forgiveness. You can pm me for more details, but AMAZING is all i can say.

State Farm did the same to me about 20 years ago. I have been with Allstate for 20 years and I love the company. No issues at all. Allstate is also doing “ Shelter in place payback” 15% refund check for 2 months. I think a lot of the companies are doing that too. Good luck to you and I’m sorry that this happen to you. Stay well

I'm really surprised to hear this! I've had State Farm since I was 16. When I went to college, I got into 2 accidents, neither my fault, and one driver who hit me was with Farmers, and the other was with Allstate. They were both horrible to me, and State Farm handled everything so I didn't have to deal with either company. That being said, my family has been with them for about 50 years, and my parents had about 6 cars, 3 boats and a house on there at one time. they pretty much could do anything and State Farm would bend over backwards for them! Fast forward to my house a few years ago, my neighbor and I both have SF so we filed a claim to have our siding and roof replaced after the nasty hailstorm a few years back, and they only replaced the siding. A few summers later, another nasty storm, they replaced the roof. My premiums went up and my deductible went up because I made 2 claims. Maybe they're just not as good as they used to be?

So odd. We've had state farm for 10+ years and about 7 claims and tickets and haven't been dropped or even threatened. We for the most part live them (minus them refusing to pay for carseats in an accident that cost me 1000 bc we have 5 ugh) if u like statefarm I'd shop different agents (yes it makes a difference. We went from one sf agent to another and saved a ton of money)
by (1.2k points)
I'd never in a million years use geico. They find EVERY reason not to pay on claims. They told my friend they dont pay for flight for life. (he almost died getting hit by drunk driver) and then another friend had her policy for 8 months and got into an accident they said oh sorry u have to be insured more than 12 months before we cover. they're horrible and u wont know till time comes. I'd always stick with bigger companies. Cheap isn't always best when it comes to insurance

My sons car had a lamppost fall on his car and the car behind him. It was in Lincoln Park in the city. The city was going to have to pay for the $9000 to fix his car because lamppost was rotted at base and wind push it into cars. We were dropped even though they would get all the money back from city. Not fair at all but very happy with Allstate insurance and my insurance agent so thankfully it worked out. But so unfair. Reason given in that money they put out was more than what we had paid in and since it would be a couple of years before they would be reimbursed they cancelled auto. I moved all the cars and homeowners as a result.

@palaearctic what’s the purpose of the insurance? That is terrible.
by (1.3k points)

We have Allstate until Memorial Day. My husband has been with them nearly 20 years, and I the 7 years we’ve been married. No problems with them until that big storm on Memorial Day last year, and they truly screwed us over. Still cleaning up after that. and it took at LEAST 6 months for them to approve any of our claims, and it wasn’t without a fight. So. NO ALLSTATE.

We’ve been very happy with Country. We have our homeowners and auto insurance through them. After a severe hail storm last Memorial Day, we filed a claim and they were really easy to work with and prompt with payment. So many of our neighbors had to fight with their insurance company as they only wanted to cover half a roof (for example).

I recommend Geico. We’ve been with them for years and use them for auto and renter’s insurance. We’ve been rear ended twice, found not at fault. We just had to report the accidents to Geico and never had any issues with them at all.

We’ve been with Country for over 35 years. Yes, we’ve had some claims, but they’ve always gone to bat for us and paid claims very quickly. Not sure if premiums would be lower anywhere else because we have never shopped around. We’ve been very satisfied and have no plans on switching to another company. We have homeowners, auto & Medicare supp with Country. Just found out yesterday that they are going to be giving a 15% refund of April & May’s auto premium due to Covid 19.

Geico and progressive will find you good deals. After an accident your rates will be really high so it's good to shop around because you'll be likelier to find an honest one than if you call an individual. I'm sorry to hear about what's happened. I agree State Farm are crooks- to add my son to my policy they quoted me $725 on top of what I was already paying for myself. I called Geico and they just added a few hundred to what I was already paying and they added more to the insurance that I already had. I moved home owners to them too.

Country was amazing for us. Geico was a nightmare after an accident that totaled our car and injured both of us (other drivers fault and police actually took her license away from it) - we still had to hire a laywer to get them to cover the damages Her company was refusing things and Geico just let them. Never using them again. Sometimes it worth a bit extra $ for a company that will fight for you - country has always covered us more than I expected and they don't make you do all the work
by (1.3k points)
@fitch7 Muersch Kershaw when I had Geico I was hit by a very drunk driver. I was leaving a grocery parking lot and several men detained him until police arrived. I called into Geico (now remember we pay a huge fee for uninsured motorists) they said they couldn’t help me because the drunk driver was driving his girlfriends car. I had my 6 year old in the car. He hit me broadside into my door. I was flabbergasted. If I hadn’t gotten her phone number from DA and called her I would not have been covered. She called her insurance and they fixed my car. He was arrested it was his 5th DUI. Never trusted GEico after that.
