If you had a wellness visit scheduled for your kiddos, are you rescheduling? My 2 y/o and newly 5/yo due for their check ups. I rescheduled the 2 y/o already from last month (to tomorrow) and I feel like the doctor's office thinks it's odd I'm not bringing them in. So just curious!

Even if they are due for vaccines it can wait a month. I would not go. People delay vaccines all the time.

This is my thought. they're otherwise up to date so can't it just wait. but honestly, they treated me like I was crazy for already doing one reschedule.

Okay glad I'm not the only one with this question. honestly their doctor's office is making me feel like I'm crazy.

@radiocommunication1 if it makes you feel any better, we've postponed ours too for now, and I don't think we're crazy to err on the side of safety, although I think Dupage in general in pretty safe, curious what others think

Are they due for vaccines? If so I'd definitely go
by (620 points)
Yes the 2/yo is. not sure if they get any at 5 y/o
by (3.4k points)
@radiocommunication1 I would take the 2yo then at least so they don't get behind on vaccinating

@radiocommunication1 the 5 year old is due for a few unless your dr does them early, at 4 years.
by (620 points)
@moersch yah i figured but thank you for confirming.

@radiocommunication1 I remember those shots were kinda rough too. I'm sure you can wait another month or so though if you're uncomfortable. My ped is doing well visits at certain locations only.

If they need vaccines I would go. If not, it can wait. At least that is what our pediatrician is recommending.

My daughters doctor, DuPage Medical, is only seeing healthy patients! They would not even see my daughter for her ear infection. They even canceled her second round of flu shots. I have a 7m old.
by (8.2k points)
@patency97405 did they say how they are determining "healthy"? Just curious. Thanks.

We just had a 6 month wellness visit and our ped still wanted us to come in for shots to make sure she was current. They did wellness visits in the morning and any “sick” visits in the pm. They brought us in a room right away when we got there so we wouldn’t be around anyone just in case

It likely depends on whether they have vaccines. if they are due for any vaccinations, they will likely want to see them to keep the schedule.

My son had one last week but he was all Ok with the vaccines. So doctor suggested to reschedule in two months.

Yup! It was supposed to be on Monday for my 15 month old but canceled and told them I would reschedule when I get a better feel for what is going on.

I took my daughter on Thursday. Our Peds office is well visit ONLY. No sick visits at all at this location! They’re still taking extra precautions (everyone entering the office must wear a mask, they’re taking everyone’s temperature & asking a series of questions- any yes, they’re re-scheduling and sending us home) I felt very safe! Maybe contact your office and see what they’re doing?

@ferroelectric6973 where do you go?
by (480 points)
@corrugation DuPage Medical Group- Rolling Ridge. We see Dr. Escalante.

Hold off. I have four kids and had to reschedule the boy child. Well, the reschedule landed in the middle of this mess. I’m delaying it. Hate going there even when we don’t have coronavirus going around. Every time we go, I’m just exposing them to illnesses.

This is my thought as well--I swear my kids get sick after every well visit.

I took my daughter in last week for her 18 month bc she had vaccines scheduled. While it’s true vaccines can be delayed who knows how long this will all last and I’d rather keep her up-to-date if possible. While I was there, our doctor did let us know that she is only seeing wellness checkups, up to age 2 that require a vaccine. My oldest has his five year check up at the end of next month and she did let us know that may be canceled depending on How things are then.

The recommendation is for 2 and younger to continue to go to their appointments. Seeing you should go with your two year old, I would just take your 5 year old as well.

Our doctors office is only doing well visits and so I felt pretty comfortable taking my kids recently. Everyone there is wearing masks as well

Rescheduled. A few months is not really “behind” in vaccines.

We kept our 6 mo well visit. Didn't want to put off vaccines. Called from parking lot to say we were there, when room ready they called us up and had separate doors for well and sick visits.
by (620 points)
That's a good idea re waiting in car. I'm going to do that
by (2.8k points)
@radiocommunication1 doc office called me to confirm appt and let me know their new procedures. Was very comfortable w arrangement! Phew because I was stressing!

I had my son's 6 month checkup, and ABC has changed their protocols completely. I'm not sure if they're seeing everyone or only vaccine appointments, but I had to call when I got there from my car, then we walked right into a room. Well visits and sick visits went in different entrances even. No issues at all!

I was just at the doctors office and they are quiet and very clean. Everyone had to wear a mask. Nobody but the patient allowed inside (different for minors of course).

My 10 year old needed a check up and he needed his meds so we went . All the doctors and nurses were wearing a mask.

I rescheduled ONLY because my son did not need vaccines AND my insurance allows one wellness exam per calendar year. (Meaning I don’t have to wait a year from the appointment date). I ended up moving my daughters appointment to the same day (end of July). She does need vaccines for 6th grade, but 2m later is not a big deal for hers

I actually just sent messages about this through MyChart yesterday. We missed an appointment and I wanted to find out about making up vaccinations and when that should be done.

I called to reschedule and they asked me to still come in. They scheduled me at a time when they didnt have sick patients and really no one was there at all. Told me they were just going to get backed up this summer if we didnt go.
