Does anyone know approx cost for tile removal? We have tile in our basement and we want to replace with carpet now that our kids are getting older to play down there. Did anyone use a company to remove tile prior to carpet install? Thanks for the help!

Carpet over it and lay a thick pad underneath it. The tile could be a nightmare taking it up and costly to dispose of. Laying carpet over tile is no different comfort wise than laying it on concrete. I’m a construction manager and this is common practice for efficiency and cost savings.

@demp4122 great thanks for the tip. Wasn’t sure if this was possible or not!

It’s definitely possible and your best bet

@demp4122 yes I’d much rather do that if it’s possible. Thanks!

@demp4122 please don’t do this. We had no idea the previous owners did this in our house when we bought. The carpet doesn’t stay where it should because it can’t anchor down.

I know you didn’t ask but personally I would keep the tile and buy some extra plush rugs for the floor.

@cystolith Thanks but our twins are extremely wild and tough with each other and we prefer carpet for their safety.

@natasha I totally get that! Avoid injury if you can. I’m a claims adjuster and see so many water claims filed. Tile is easier than carpet.

Or carpet over it with a thicker padding? First thing I think of too is if there is water damage in the basement and the carpet has to come out.

We just moved into our home two months ago and the basement had tile. We just put memory foam padding and then comfy plush carpet on top of the existing tile! We went with Home Depot for the installation, padding, and carpet!

We have twins too, the carpet was a must!

@crankpin oh perfect! Glad that it worked so easy! Sounds like we are going to go that route too. And yes with twins - it’s a must. They’re almost 2 and WILD and I also have a 4 year old who joins in  carpet and soft padding is a must!
