Trigger warning: Any recommendations on a High Risk Pregnancy OBGYN?  I had a miscarriage today and didn’t like how my current clinic handled everything. I’m devastated.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Dr. Martin has been my guy for the last six years. He caught what could have been a bombshell then and have kept me well through the ups and downs ever since. He and Dr. Weeks are wonderful. The rest of the practice (DMG Naperville) is great- but when given the choice- I ask for either of them.

I’m so sorry Missy. I had a horrible experience at northwestern/prentice when I went through my first m/c-that really was a nightmare. It was an undiagnosed ectopic. so emotionally scarred from all that. I highly recommend moving on, and finding the right individual care you need. my first Obgyn has since retired from delivering babies but he was amazing. I delivered my third at Edwards with DMG Dr. peter Weeks.

You are in my prayers. I am so very sorry for your loss. I go to Naperville Women’s Heathcare. They could not have been more compassionate- I was out of town and had to go to a hospital in Indiana. When I came back, I went to see my doctor, Dr. Flannery was on call. They took their time, explained all procedures I needed, and gave me numbers/ support groups to help with my loss. I even got a blue and pink flowers with a handwritten card. My thoughts are with you, you are not alone ❤️❤️❤️

Dr Jill Moran is a wonderful mfm for high risk, and I enjoyed dr Anderson. For me Jensen seemed busy and couldn’t remember any of my info every time I was there. Nothing was personal and especially in those situations I feel you need that. Hugs. Been there. ❤️

I am so sorry for your loss. I experienced a miscarriage last October and my OB was so caring and kind. He called to check on me a couple of times prior to having a D&C (my body was still holding on for weeks after I lost the baby) I love my OB. Dr Thomas Kazmierczak with DuPage Medical Group. He even offered to say a prayer for the baby during the D&C. We aren’t super religious but I thought that it was a very kind gesture. I cannot say enough good things about him and the other doctor in his practice.

OMG I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss :_( I don't know if she specializes in high risk but she's great. Has awards for best OBGYN in the states Dr. Shamim Patel in Woodridge. She is INCREDIBLY thorough, if she gets the slightest hint of a problem she does any and every test and precaution known to man. .

@yance that’s what I needed. Unfortunately they didn’t care.
by (1k points)
@censorship I'm so so sorry. I know nothing can help ur current situation :( but if ur even in the fortuitous situation of being with child again Dr. Patel could easily be called overly cautious. She went above and beyond with me. I was 35 last year when my son was born (technically a geriatric pregnancy) and she took EVERY precaution. Best if all luck. We are all here if u need anything

I’m sorry for the experience you’ve had today. Look at all of this support! I, too, have been in your shoes. My previous practice handled my first miscarriage extremely poorly (didn’t return my frantic phone call until three days later! ), so I called another practice. That team is amazing! I ended up having another miscarriage a short time thereafter. and they were fantastic. I have NEVER been so happy with or trust a team of doctors as I do with my OB team. Dr Gordon from Dr. Julie Jensen’s practice delivered my baby 1. 5 y ago (I’m approaching 40y). I can’t speak more highly of these doctors. I am sending my best to you. Know you aren’t alone. best wishes

Dr @seeder72 Carney (used to be in Naperville women’s group, now she’s at DMG I believe) saved my life when she diagnosed my Cornual Ectopic pregnancy. Ultrasound couldn’t pick up on it so the ER doc said it was just normal bleeding. She went with her gut and kept running tests on me. Sure enough she confirmed it when she went in laparoscopically. It was days away from bursting. She saved my life. I highly recommend her.
by (1.7k points)
@hindu I had the same experience with an Ectopic back in 2018 with Dr Julie Jensen who works with Dr Carney too. They were great through the entire awful time. I'm now 16 weeks and I get to meet Dr Carney on my 20 week appt!

I’m so sorry for your loss. It is quite possibly the worst feeling. I had a loss in August and didn’t like the way it was handled at my old office. A friend who had been in my shoes recommended Dr. Weeks or Dr. Martin. It was the best switch I have ever made. I know their practice has been suggested several times on the thread but honestly, they have been nothing but phenomenal! Good luck. Hugs to you!
by (530 points)
@trantrance @danit dr weeks delivered both of the boys. I was also considered high risk because both of my boys are fertility babies. They are all amazing!
by (2.1k points)
@knowles Dyson wow! What’s a small world! I saw him 3 weeks after our loss, which was not handled well at all at my last practice, and the first thing he did was give me the biggest hug. I knew we were in the right place. So far, we’ve met Martin, weeks, Sayla, and Keegan. Love them all!
by (530 points)

I don’t know where TO go but I can tell you from our experience that I will not be going back to West Suburban Women’s Health. We went there because they were so highly recommended in another Mom’s group and we had the most awful experience. I did love the care I received through Maternal Fetal Medicine at Hinsdale Hospital, I’m not sure if they take on their own patients or not but I will be looking into that in the near future. Sending so much love your way. ♥️

I am so sorry for your loss. It is never easy, especially when not handled properly. I had a similar situation with my 1st miscarriage with a doctor who is no longer practicing. I switched to Dr Peter Weeks 17 years ago and he is amazing, although I am not sure if he is considered high risk. My sister (and many others I know) used Dr. Julie Jensen. She is awesome and I believe she works with high risk. I wish you the best and am sending you virtual hugs.

I am incredibly sorry for this loss and your unpleasant experience at the clinic. my heart breaks for you and I hope you can find ways to support yourself  For a high risk MFM consult (one time visit), I would definitely journey down to the MFM group at Prentice. They all are wonderful. If you need to have an MFM throughout the entire pregnancy (like I did with my 2nd), I felt very assured going there in an academic setting for every visit, test, and delivery. With my 3rd, I chose to be seen in town because proximity to the hospital was my priority in case an emergency happened and it is difficult driving to the city for every visit. The MFMs in town don’t see you the entire pregnancy like at Prentice. They only do the specialized testing and consults. So I chose Julie Jensen’s practice for OB. While you would see all of the physicians there at some point, I preferred Dr Patten’s bedside manner but felt very safe with Jensen for the c section. Any high risk testing would be done by the MFMs at Edward and I liked Dr. Madsen there. Good luck on this journey of grief and family planning. Sending you a big hug

I didn’t like DMG. I went to Northwestern (Prentice). When it comes to high risk, being in a major academic center is key in my opinion. I ended up flying to UCSF for emergency surgery based on a misdiagnosis through DMG - UCSF realized my identical twin pregnancy was actually fine. They then told me not to mess around and referred me to MFM at Prentice. I am so sorry for your loss.

I have nothing to offer with a MD recommendation because I go to a practice in the city. but I’m sorry you are going through this. I had two miscarriages and a fertility specialist told me I had less than a 5% chance of having a baby without IVF. 4 years later, two miscarriages, and a lot of tears and anxiety. my little girl will be 1 next week and we conceived naturally. Life has a way of throwing curveballs at you. Just know you aren’t alone in this ❤️ and it’s ok to grieve your loss.

So very sorry for this painful loss. I know it’s excruciating.  I have had a miscarriage, an ectopic pregnancy, and also a baby who didn’t survive due to trisomy 18. Time will make the waves of sorrow smaller and less frequent, but they do still roll in sometimes bringing sorrow. My first miscarriage was 20 years ago so. The majority of my pregnancies were considered advanced maternal age. I go to Dupage Medical Group and love Dr. Joseph Martin. He is wonderful. He was my doc for my last pregnancy at 40. I also had Stuart Heimburger (He’s in Wheaton though at DMG) for the Trisomy 18 pregnancy at 37. He and his wife had experienced something similar so he was very understanding and empathetic. Good luck and Sending love and light your way.
