Pets on craigslist, is it a terrible idea? Any success or horror stories? Any vets who think it works out or is terrible? My daughter wants a bearded dragon so badly and there are literally none in rescue anywhere near us right now.

My sisters bf just got a cat from there and it was pregnant and now my whole family has kittens  I would find a Facebook group or something instead

@boyne let me know if you need someone to take one of those kitties off your hands.

@stepaniestepbrother do you want a kitten
by (730 points)
@papilionaceous thinking about it! Sydney's trying to see if she can take a cat to college.

@stepaniestepbrother they’re all claimed for and just went to their new homes last week lol. It was a shocker coming home to 2 kittens and a couple more coming out!

Ayris, I'll bet!

@stepaniestepbrother Lol pets that “go to college” end up going back home to live with Mom and Dad.
by (730 points)
Christy, I'd be okay with that. It would get my daughter to come home more often to visit.

@stepaniestepbrother I get it! We love to fill up our empty nest.

We bought our Lannister (dog) on Craig’s list 8 years ago. Best mutt around.

I got a free cat on Craig’s list & the poor cat had serious health problems. He only lived 5 years. He was the SWEETEST cat ever but we were so traumatized by the constant health issues & untimely death. I keep wondering if the prior owner new something was up.

@swithbart poor kitty  that’s the kind of thing I’m worried about honestly.

@ending it was so heartbreaking
by (2.8k points)
@ending of course, the flip side is that we have him the best life we could for 4 years. If the previous owners would have been able to do the same, they wouldn’t have given him away. So. ‍♀️

My daughter was bit in the face by a dog off Craigslist at her dads aunts house. I didn’t know a dog was even in the home. Purchased a week prior. The dog was surrendered to animal control and put down for severe dog aggression. Not even her father was forth coming about the prior owner so we had no record of shots even. Bearded dragon may b ok but I see the surroundings before committing

We got our puppy off of craigslist. the seller had mom & dad on his farm & he just sells their litters whenever they have them . i guess it all depends on the person selling them

Pm u! Also my first pup was from Craigslist. An accidental litter and they were going to drop them all off at the shelter. He was the best dog ever. I was 19 so didn’t think twice. Now a days. I don’t know, I would be skeptical using craigslist but also I guess it all depends I wouldn’t completely knock it as it’s just another way to get the word out too

There is a reptile store in Orland Park near the mall that I would trust. We have a bearded dragon and I get some of our supplies from there. I wouldn’t buy a bearded dragon at a pet store like Petsmart since they aren’t super knowledgeable. We got our bearded dragon from a friend. Otherwise reach out to the Chicago Junior Herpetological Society and see if they have any leads on ones to rescue.

There are local reptile groups on Facebook. Joined those and look for a post. Sometime there are rescues on there.

We got ours from the Chicago Reptile House in Orlando Park. The pet expo is nice, but who knows how soon that will open.

I think buying is OK. I'd be nervous as the seller that a pet would be mistreated by the buyer. but I do think for purchasing you should be OK.

We lucked out with our mutt. 9 years ago, 1. 5 year old “shar pei” mix. free to a good home. $50 “fee” for his stuff. Best dog I’ve ever had.
by (3.6k points)
@gruesome free to a good home always makes me nervous! Sweet sleepy pup ❤️

@ending they didn’t have time for him. Took them a year + to figure that out. He was a Christmas present for 3 year old. Shame on the parents. But he’s well taken care of and well lived now.

I went and “met” him with my other dogs before I decided for sure. And brought a friend with me. Safety first.
