My son is currently is in a 5th grade challenge (honors) program and will be starting Junior high DOUBLE honors math in the fall. which means he goes from one year ahead in math (6th grade math) to 8th grade math in the fall-completely skipping 7th grade math (with just an online course over the summer. ) This being said, I’m not super math minded and am considering a math tutor for him make up the 7th grade year and transition into 8th grade math. What is the standard going rate for math tutors now? I’m thinking maybe a highschool kid would be best.

Hi Cori! You probably dint want a teenager in this scenario. You probably will want a teacher or a former teacher of some sort that knows the curriculum. Thankspically tou will pay beyween $30-40/hour. Feel free to call me with questions. my number hasn't changed ♥️

@nitroglycerin thanks Kim! I just spoke with his teacher, she’s going to send over a 7th grade curriculum for him to review and try over the couple weeks and then we will see where we are at I guess! Otherwise, I’ll be callin! ❤️ Thank you!

@nitroglycerin see like Aiden would be too when he goes into 7th grade if he stays on this track! So will they have to bus her to the HS for math classes?

No. she will stay at the middle school and get a teacher that is AP (advanced placement) certified.

My daughter did this (we are in District 204). She had to take a math class on-line in the summer that covered the year she'd be missing

My advice is to be very mindful. I personally went from regular sixth grade math to advanced for 7th, essentially skipping 7th grade math, and it had a negative effect on my math competency through high school.
