Does anyone remember what year Casey’s opened? The location they’re at now.

For awhile after Jewel moved to market meadows, Jewel held the lease and would not let anyone move in. I remember the citizens made a fuss to pressure Jewel to let it go.

Jewel continues that business practice to this day by holding onto the leases for many of the defunct Dominicks locations.

@decile I assume that you might be related to Ken? I served on Naperville’s Plan Commission with him twenty years ago.

Gary, Yes. Our Family moved to Naperville in 1968 when Dad (Ken) took the job of Public Works Director for the City of Naperville (if I remember correctly).

Between when Jewel who moved to Market Meadows on the newly developed Naper Blvd in 1978 and Colony it was called No Frills. Like Aldi today, everything was generic, we had to bring our own bags and nothing was labeled but the shelves. My brother in-law Steve Powers was a cashier there on the weekend had to memorize the prices. I would quiz him every Friday night before he started his weekend shifts, it only lasted a few years until Colony moved in.
