Good morning!  What are your thoughts on school kits for the next school year?Good morning! What are your thoughts on school kits for the next school year? Looked at the website and it says that due to Covid kits will not be refunded. So does one purchase a kit thinking positive that kids will go back in the fall or just wait it out and go and try to find everything needed at stores as we get closer?

I ordered one. I am fortunate to be able to afford to "lose" it. I figure if she needs it, she's got it. If she doesn't, I will leave it with the teacher and another kid who doesn't have what they need can use it.

Exactly my thought process as well. It can't hurt.

I plan to still buy kits - they HAVE to be at school at some point, right?! (That’s me begging). However I know our supply kit chair plans to order a lot of extras for people who are waiting, so maybe check with yours on that?

We got one for our kindergartener since our school prefers us to buy the kit. We will wait for our other kids and buy at the store once we have a better understanding of what fall will look like

We did them, i asked and they said if need be they can try to arrange pick up if we don’t return. Figure the supplies could be helpful at home ‍♀️

I’m personally waiting. I’m also hopeful they will go back on fall, but I’ll purchase the items needed for next year. I’ve done that for a few years without issues. Everything is just too up in the air right now.

I bought them. They will go back eventually. If not right away, then we can use the stuff at home in the meantime.

I'm new to the area. Moved here just before Christmas. How much are the kits and where do you buy them? I may just buy the school items as I always have, in the stores or online
by (2.4k points)
@maniemanifest our school sent home a link to the store that provides them. Prices vary on grade level

What school district? I haven't got anything from the school yet.
by (4.7k points)
@kinesiology I'll double check emails but I dont remember seeing one. I was told school fees would arrive later? Maybe that's it or I missed it

@maniemanifest I am in 203 and my youngest will be going into 5th grade so we received the link in our news letter. I know at least at our school they have a kindergarten preview so maybe that’s when they give out info

I decided to buy them. Their lists don’t change drastically year to year, so worst case is we use them the next year and just add a few things if need be. I priced out the kit vs buying on my own and checked the lists for future grades. In our case it makes sense to order.

I didn’t even get a notification about the school kits. This is getting hard for every single thing!

@photosensitive they sent ours in our weekly newsletter from the school

Where did you find info about school supply orders? My daughter will be starting school at highlands.
by (6.1k points)
@janellejanene4331 - home & school generally handles these. If you don’t see it on the school website, you can email H&S or on their social media

Cheaper to get your own

@camel3 the o e time I did that I couldn’t find a few of the items needed
by (360 points)
I have actually found the opposite to be true. I spend more money buying the supplies myself than when I purchase the kits. Plus it's much easier!
by (4.2k points)
@balancer that's interesting. I have to buy for 3 kids and last year was the first year I did not do the kits. I did re use rulers and highlighters and pencil cases and a few others. I ended up saving $100 between 3 kids school supplies.

@camel3 I will admit this year that I did find the really expensive calculator my incoming 8th grader will need $20 cheaper on Amazon than with the kit. Being able to reuse items definitely helps too! We have a family in our neighborhood that collects used supplies at the end of the year so I get rid of a lot.

My daughter needed some expensive calculator for 6th grade and Target had it on sale way earlier then when most places put things on sale for like $10 instead of $30 so I picked that up fast!

I hate supply shopping. So I bought them purely for my own sanity.

I have used Target the last two years, they have school lists on the website, it adds all the items to the cart and you can order or change items if needed

We purchased one. 204 district. It mentioned the school deciding if the kit is being shipped to the school or home. So my thought is we have the kit for this year, for this year whenever we start, or for next year and may make adjustments depending on that grade’s requirements. You’ll always need school supplies!

We bought them. I expect schools to be open at least part of the year(hopefully the entire year but who knows? ).

I’ve found them to be substantially cheaper than buying the actual supplies

Do you want to go hunting in the stores elbow to elbow with the whole town? Get the kit.

I used to SWEAR by the kits, but as my kids have gotten older, and we've collected things brought home not used and still in good shape to use the next year if needed. as well as them wanting more fun notebooks and stuff, and me being APPALLED at the serious lack in quality of those paper folders that you need to replace halfway through the year anyway. I've been buying the last few years. Have not had a problem finding just about everything we've needed at whatever store we're at, usually Target or Meijer.

I went ahead and ordered last night. I think the odds of kids not having ANY in person learning next year is slim so they should need the supplies at some point.

School kits are the great. Bought one every year for my kids. Can’t beat the price
