So.  does the back up sump pump come on when there is an excessive amount of rain or when the power goes out?So. does the back up sump pump come on when there is an excessive amount of rain or when the power goes out? Whenever we get a lot of rain I have to reset the pump. I am wondering if I need to put that on a separate circuit breaker.

Our back up is on a battery.

@doralyn136 that’s a good point I can’t figure out why it always has to be reset when there is a heavy rain

@grantham8 I know we have to add distilled water to our battery. Maybe that is why it beeps?

The backup pump gets activated when the main pump fails or not able to work properly. There could be two reasons why the main pump is not working properly. 1. It is old and not able to pump out the water properly. 2. The sump pump may just not be big ( size)and powerful (HP)enough to handle the job.
