My little guy is in kindergarten going to first grade. I am new to Naperville schools do they do graduations or send cap and gowns for kindergarteners? I realize due to covid there will be no actual graduation but wanted to ask if this is something that happens with 204 schools. Thank you.

203 just sent home a certificate for my now 4th grader. No celebration or ceremonies, it made me a little sad at the time as I watched all my friends kids have full on graduations

Nothing with 204, not even a certificate last year

@radbun I wish they would give a certificate at least

We came from Plainfield schools and they do an assembly for the Kdg families with songs, a certificate, slideshow, etc. I saw today that the teachers stopped by the kids houses with a banner and certificate  We’re in 204 now and was curious too if we missed out on anything this year bc I have a kindergartener too! I have 2 more to go so now I won’t expect anything for them!

No. My daughter is moving from river woods to middle school and they forgot to drop off her yard sign yesterday. The signs were in other kids yards but she was missed for some reason. Ugh, 2020. My son is in VPK going into kindergarten but the graduation for him was more for me. Missed both.

Nope. They do things when you move to new schools - so 5th, 8th and obviously 12th which makes sense to me.

Just FYI 204 only believes in caps and gowns for high school graduation. They do not do one for 8th grade graduation.

I wonder why that is I guess they don’t think of it as an accomplishment.

@diddle that’s not the case. I think our schools do a great job celebrating our kids and their accomplishments every day. I don’t see kindergarten as something you graduate. The next year you attend the same school. It’s not a big deal - at least not in my mind. My youngest finishes kinder Wednesday in 204. When she finishes fifth grade our school does a “clap out” and sends the kids out to the “big” school. I grew up in Naperville and the only proper graduation has ever been high school.

@lau89 thank you I went to Chicago public schools then Plainfield so not familiar with Naperville schools. I was just going off my own experience with school.

@diddle I completely get that . Every year we do something as a family to celebrate the last day and moving to a new grade. Now is a great time to start a tradition. Ours usually involves ice cream

@lau89 I like this idea! My kids loves ice cream  and I do too!

@diddle my daughter’s class was the last one to hold an 8th graduation in 2005 for district 204. At the time, we were told that they were doing away with them bc everyone will complete 8th grade, that the one to celebrate would be high school bc by that time, not everyone graduates. It makes sense. My son, class of 2007/8th grade, had a lil ceremony.
