My little guy slept so well until the time change, even shortly after as well. But, for the last month, now that the birds are up and chirping before 5am, he’s decided that’s when he needs to get up too!  Any tips on how to not have noise outside wake up my 19 month old? He’s got a blackout curtain. We have the house fan go on early, but it’s not loud enough to cover the cardinals.

We use a noise machine with white noise. Doesn’t completely block things out, but it helps! We use the Dohm one.

Hey Shayna! I’m a pediatric sleep consultant and owner of The Well Rested Club. I recently did a post on early wakes on my instagram. You may find it helpful, but I would definitely start with white noise. You may find it best to leave close to the window.  .

@concentrate thanks Kathleen. Looks like we need a white noise machine that we can schedule to turn on at 4am!

@elburt I think white noise at all sleep times is a must for all little ones! I use one myself to drown out my husband’s snoring and loud breathing

@concentrate yea we’ve found with this regression time that’s also included separation anxiety, he’s a much lighter sleeper and we have to tip toe past his room. Until about a month ago, he was a fantastic sleeper. I’ve seen so many moms say that so I’m proud to say it myself

If you don’t have sound machine use a box fan. I’ve used a sound machine since birth, I swear by it. Unless you have a sound sleeper which sounds like you don’t either way, a constant noise to cover up or muffle everything else is helpful. Our sons bedroom faces the street so I have the sound machine closest to that window/walll to help drown the sound. And black our curtains I still use or he’d be up at sunrise too.

Both my 5 and 1 year old use white noise all night long. Since I’ve been hearing it through the monitor for 5 years, now I need it to get good sleep! It’s the best. seems weird at the very first bc it feels so loud but give it about 60 seconds.
