My friend has an adorable problem. Her 22 month old requests songs for her and her husband to sing at bedtime ("wheels bus sing, " "star twinkle sing, " etc. ) For a week now he has been requesting what sounds like "smile sing" or "my-oh sing, " and they have no idea what song he's talking about! They've tried every song they can think of with smile in the title or lyrics and even asked his daycare if there's a song they sing there, but no luck! Every song they try is met with, "No. Smile sing. " They just want to crack the case! Anybody have a guess?

I found this one. Also tell them to watch what he’s watching. My son did this and it was a random song from Sheriff Callie ‍♀️. Seven years later we still laugh and sing the song

I know this sounds silly and you’ve probably thought of it, but could it be something they hear on the radio, mainstream music and not necessarily a kids song?
by (6.4k points)
@posturize413 She tried Nat King Cole's "Smile, " which he politely listened to for a little bit, then said, "No. Smile sing. "

With a smile and a song from Snow White? Search Disney jr or any other cartoons they may watch. They are sponges and pick up the weirdest things!

At that age my daughter would request things like the “car song” or “grandma song” and basically she just wanted us to make up songs about certain topics ‍♀️
by (1.3k points)
@sabulous My daughter does the same thing. Her personal favorite is the smoke alarm song
by (2k points)
@ptolemaeus83096 my husband hated it because she would request the songs from him but he wouldn’t make them up the same way as me and she would get mad at him
by (1.3k points)
@sabulous Oh it’s the same with us! Neither of us are good singers but I have more creativity with making up fun lyrics for her. Last night he tried to sing her plain old Twinkle Star and she interrupted and just said “I want Mommy to sing it. ” Haha

We have a toy that sings “when you’re smiling, when you’re smiling, the whole world sings with you. ” it’s a Halloween toy, so it talks about Halloween, but I wonder if it was modified and changed for Halloween and the original has different lyrics

Seems like a long shot but there are versions of this song by Michael Buble and Louis Armstrong that might have played other places?

Any songs they sing that use the word Mile? Maybe a marching song or 500 miles or something. If smile isn't getting them anywhere I'm trying to think of other rhyming words in kids songs.

Could be shArk song. baby shark. My son says Spider-Man song and I learned it’s sunflower by post Malone. lol. Which has no Spider-Man in it at all. So, it could be a song they heard by way of tv. Or if they watch kid you tube maybe a song on there. Trace steps

My daughter did this around the same age! She'd be in tears because I didn't sing ____ sing before I laid her down. Now she either tells me to stop singing or tells me 'thank you for singing such a beautiful song, Mommy. Oh it's my favvvorite. ' [Hugs herself and bats eyelashes]

Good luck lol. This is the story of my life. We just type similar words into youtube and play everything we think it might be until we either find it or give up and jump off a bridge so we dont have to hear the tantrum.

I don't have a "smile" suggestion, but my 2 year old often requests random variations to common songs. For example, it took me three days to figure out that "the green one" meant, "Baa baa green sheep, " as opposed to "Baa baa black sheep. " So maybe it's something like that?

My little one years ago loved the song “Michael” and always requested my parents to play it whenever we visited. Turns out it was “My Girl” by the Temptations.  Best of luck! Please update, many of us will be losing sleep over this.
