Hi mommas!  When did your babies move from taking 2 naps to 1 nap?Hi mommas! When did your babies move from taking 2 naps to 1 nap? My son is just about to be 10 months and is taking forever to fall asleep for his morning nap which then he’s not tired for an afternoon nap until a lot later than he normally has been taking. Did you guys keep trying to keep the 2 naps as long as possible even if the times are becoming later?

Hi @donetta6, my name is @gensler889 with Good Night Sleep Site Chicago! At 10 months of age your son is far too young to be shifting to a single nap and receive the correct amount of restorative sleep to reach bedtime without overtiring. I recommend to my clients to wait until 15-18 months of age to do the 2-1 Transition and the longer you can hang onto two naps the better. The 2-1 Transition can be a tough one for kids to handle. 8-10 months is a common sleep regression time for children due to a lot of physical milestones being reached. Additional, around 12 months of age is a common time for nap strikes to occur. Forging ahead with your typical 2 nap schedule is your best way to get the nap to fall back in place. Just continue offering your morning nap and put it out of your mind that he is skipping it. After the nap fails, do you best to keep him entertained -- get him outside for fresh air and sunshine which will help to reset his internal sleepy clock--and do your best to get him to reach his typical afternoon nap time which should fall somewhere between 12-1pm (shhh don't tell anyone I said that! ). Give him at least 90 minutes of independent time for both nap 1 and 2 to try for them. If you are persistent and consistent things will start rolling again for you. I'll leave you with a replay of a video I did on The Hour Rule for shaping naps as well as a 2-1 Nap Transition Do's and Dont's handout I created. Every kid is different but both of mine made it til about 16-17 months (which is late I think. ) At the end, I moved first nap back a little til around 10ish and then woke after an hour and put her down for second nap later as well. When you do switch, try to push off til 11:30/12 at first and do a pretty early bedtime. That’s what worked best for us at least!

Mom of 4 here. (Age 9. 5, almost 6, 4, and 4 months. ) From my experience, my kids all fought their naps around that age. Each time, I would question whether or not they needed to go down to one nap. I kept pushing through though, and then they hung onto their nap for several more months. I would personally push through.

I know every kid is completely different and what works for one may not work for another! But I think typically at that age they still need 2 naps and then sometime between 12-18 months they then drop to 1 nap. I think I once heard to try to hold on to 2 naps as long as you can if possible, but I could be wrong! Do you think he might be going through a sleep regression? I remember having a rough time with naps and sleep with my son right around that time, but now we’re back on track. The 9 month sleep regression is real!  lol

Around 16 months. We tried to drop it several times between 12 months and 16 months and she was just miserable. She needed the sleep. ‍♀️

15 months. Definitely not before one, They should technically still be on two naps. I would try to keep two at least until one.

My 11 month old did this at ten month old for a few weeks and is now solidly back on a two nap schedule. I imagine it will go to one in the next month or two, that’s when my three other kids dropped to one. (Right around a year - also the warmer spring weather will make you wanting to drop it too! )

First kid was 18 months. Second was. maybe 16 months? It’s a little harder to say, because we were going out more in the mornings, so for months she would often do really short naps in the morning (maybe 20 min) while we were out or in the car, so i’m not sure if that counts?
