Disclaimer: I’m a horrible decorator and have zero taste. We have an old farmhouse which we are redoing room by room. Kitchen first- gray tones with navy trim. Looks sharp. Now family room. One wall is 2/3 brick fireplace. It’s paneled and wallpapered now- ya, I know. We are tearing everything off the walls, drywalling and doing hardwood floors. (Thanks for sticking with me) Question is paint colors- should I keep within the gray family so it “flows” or can I go in a different direction. If I do gray, I’m thinking white trim, but what about a BRIGHT accent wall- orange, green, yellow? Please help.

Definitely white trim. It doesn't have to be same color to flow. If you look at the color strip for the paint color in kitchen if it is 3 steps down just make sure to stay 3 steps down on next color

I feel this way I feel that everybody's house is gray so you go from one house to another and everybody's house looks the same. I think that you should go with colors and set a new trend

Instead of a bright color, what about doing a wall in shiplap, wood planks, or some other media? Since it's a farmhouse it might work? Just an idea

@pol40 I agree especially after taking wallpaper down as the walls will probable be a mess .

You can use a color consultant from sherwin Williams. They come to your house & help you select the best color. Just call local store to set up an appointment. I too am horrible at decorating

I would not do a bright accent wall in an everyday living space. It will get real old real quick. Use the color snap app from sherwin Williams and you can virtually paint your home to see the colors on the wall.

A navy accent wall with grey side walls would look great and connect the two rooms. *pic of my son's room with navy and grey.

Etsy. I was able to pick my custom colors. I'll try and find the link.

If you are going to live in it, paint it any color you love! If you are planning on selling, go neutral. Mindful grey, Revere Pewter are both great colors.

Do what suits you! I love the shiplap wall look! And if you’re going to cover paneling with drywall, you could save money (potentially, not sure what needs to be behind shiplap) by doing that instead. My entire house is different shades of gray with accent walls, minus my bedroom and living/family room areas because we didn’t have time to decide on an accent wall with baby coming.
