Husband is having pain and inflammation due to an impacted wisdom teeth. Dentist has already prescribed an antibiotic today over the phone and gave an appointment for this thursday to remove the tooth. But i am super scared of having him visit the dentist and getting such a procedure done because of COVID 19. What should i do?

Clothes can be removed in the garage or utility room/entry way then bagged & taken straight to washing machine. Wash hands after handling the laundry. Also - most DDS have been closed except for emergencies. So office is likely very safe and has not had many people in it. Definitely safer than a grocery store or gas station. They are health professionals & will take all the precautions.

First, stay calm. Our own immune systems don't work as well when we are stressed, so please try to stay calm. It will be ok.

Tooth pain is insane. Why don’t you let him heal. Then quarantine him to one room and bathroom that nobody else uses for 14 days upon dentist exposure

@mauro169 yes i am thinking about this

Not sure if this would help him with the pain but when I had to have a root canal done the only thing that eased my pain was swishing vodka around in my mouth, it really helped!

I understand you are worried but he needs to get it out to prevent worse complications. The drs and dentists are doing what they can to ensure safety. Don't make this any more painful for him. Tooth pain is the absolute worst and his quality of life will improve. Tell him to go and support it.

Have had an infection and a tooth removed (thk u implants) and the infection is extremely dangerous. Get it removed. Logically, your husband has perhaps a 1% chance of dying from covid- not that anyone wants to catch it!

If you are super worried have the dentist wipe the seat and handle down with lysol wipes. I am pretty sure they are taking safety precautions. Have him wear gloves as well. when he gets home have him change his clothes and wash them right away.

Can’t play around with the teeth. Tooth pains horrible it stops everything. The dentist always wears a mask have your husband wear one as well.

@hajj4 how the husband would wear mask if the procedure will be done in his mouth by a dentist?

@mccormac1 before and afterwards

@hajj4 yes to the mask! We didn’t have masks so my husband wore a scarf up until the dentist was ready to work on him.

@keepsake5499 yes because you want to definitely keep that infection risk down.

Even though he’s not a medical Dr a Dentist still has medical training and knowledge and I would trust that he would know if he was sick with covid etc so I would definitely have the tooth removed.

How would he know though if up to 50% of people have no symptoms?
by (4.8k points)
@culinarian Marchese Young I would still chance it over a tooth infection. Also the number is 1 out of 4 is thought to have no symptoms which would be 25%.
by (1.2k points)
@drunk that number just keeps going up though. March 17th it was 17. 9%. Dr. Fauci said recently "25-50%" and last night I read 60%. Different experts have different opinions, but its going up.

It will be fine, especially since dental offices are closed except to see patients for emergencies like this one. Better to get it taken care of then have it turn more serious. I’m sure they will be wearing masks while working on him.

Dental offices have been closed for elective procedures so right now is as safe as it gets. I wouldn’t delay - the longer you wait, the greater the pain and chance of complications. In addition, the virus is largely airborne and the dentist will be wearing a mask and your husband will be knocked out.

Hi Sadia, my brother is a dentist in Naperville and just as you’re worried for your husband going to the dentist, we are worried about my brother being the dentist and seeing potentially positive covid pts. I assure you they are taking all precautionary measures to provide a safe place not only for their emergency pts but also for the Drs. And staff members. I’m sure he’ll be in good hands and will be much happier post extractions! Good luck.

I don't know enough to say for you, but if it were me, depending on the urgency, I would first seek advice on any possible alternatives over the phone from a DO, functional doctor, holistic practitioner, Whole Foods or Fruitful Yield. Many of these have time to talk due to Covid-19. I just completed a class. Antibiotics wipe out the good bacteria in your gut, which compromises your autoimmune system, so if you do find you need to do it, it is even more important to stay inside.

Dentists and doctors are taking extra precautions right now in their offices too and ensuring they are clean and sterile. At this time it’s important to determine if the benefit outweighs the risk. If he’s having pain I would say he should go through with it. Also do it sooner before it becomes a bigger issue.

My husband had a filling fall out and had to go to the dentist this weekend. The dentist was great. They took his temperature, and had tons of sanitizer. He was the only one there, so plenty of distance except when dentist was working on him. The dentist of course wore a face mask. I’d recommend him getting in and getting his dental stuff taken care of ASAP. The pandemic is gonna get worse before, and you don’t want to have to go out during the worst parts of it.
