Okay Mommas, I need some help. My daughter is turning 1 in few weeks and of course we can’t have a party for her anymore. Her cake smash too got postponed. And I agree, as many would say, that she won’t remember what we did for her or what we did not. But, I still would love to celebrate big. Any ideas on something creative? I do plan to bake a cake, do a mini cake smash at home and lots of snuggles. What else can I do to make it special? Thank you!

It's all about what you want to do for yourself, obviously she will not remember any of it

@benevolence23904 Our families are remote, so lately have enjoyed using Zoom to celebrate and group reconnect

We intentionally celebrated both of our kids first birthdays without guests other than one grandma, but we treated everything else as if it were a party. Tablecloths, banners, balloons, smash cake, big cake, punch in one of those fancy beverage dispensers, themey toddler outfit, etc. This way, the pictures imply a party and WE feel like we had a party even though we didn’t.  Our other favorite detail though, was that we invited all grandparents and aunts/uncles to attend the party digitally, so we FaceTimed everyone on different devices (no Zoom at the time! ) and set the devices up so they could see the birthday kid! (With our first, I even mailed party favor treat bags to “attending” family members so they could eat treats while watching our son eat cake. Bailed on that for #2. ) Anyway, we didn’t want to take up their whole day, so we greeted them, sang happy birthday, opened presents, and then let the birthday child smash their cake. Then we said goodbye to the digital family members before bath time. Worked shockingly well! Best wishes and happy birthday to your little one!

@sukin This is such a lovely idea. I personally am sad that grandparents, and some really special family members are missing it so this really helps. I’ll order party decor for her party, and treats to mail, right away. Thank you! You don’t know but this just helped calm me.

That makes me so happy!  I’ll message you links to my Facebook albums of their parties just so you can see. Hopefully the links will work. Also, ‘Two Bite Brownies’ were the thing I finally found that was easy to mail and closest to tiny chocolate cakes.

Hmm. It seems like Facebook removed the option to share a Facebook album that is typically private.  Darn. If you care to see the pictures for ideas, feel free to add me as a friend, and I will tag you in the two albums, and then you can delete me after you’ve seen anything that would help you.

@kilohertz I hear you! I am on the same boat and as much as I know it’s not going to make a big difference to her, I want her to have pictures in her future. My family is big in birthdays so I guess I am too. Happy early Birthday to your twins! I’ll share my picture on how it goes and may be you can share yours. All the best!

Maybe ask people to write her a note. I think the memories make it fun. You could put the notes in a book or something with the photos you take.

@arabian Thank you - that is a wonderful idea! Added to my list

Hey Sachi! You can create a lot of memories and the best is the cake smash. My son had a blast covering his entire face with cake while tryin to eat it. Also I put balloons and decorations in one room and did a mini photo shoot of him. His bday was celebrated on weekend but that day become special coz of all this.

For a one year old I would suggest a ball pit maybe with different toys and treats inside for them to look for?
