Build a Ubiquiti network that doesn’t suck and you won’t need an extender

@thisbe I have one you can have. We don’t need it anymore. DM your address and I can drop it off tomorrow.

There’s a very big technical difference between a “WiFi extender” and mesh routers (Orbi, eero, Google mesh) Stay away from older tech like WiFi extenders. Go with Orbi, eero. etc. They are a lot more expensive and basically a whole new WiFi router but they are far superior to a $30 range extender that you’ll typically hear about.

Eero installed 18 months ago and powerfully flawless and great app for keeping track of everything with a great virus protection.

Eero is a mesh network. Wifi extenders share addresses and can be very spotty and a real pain.

@bubal10 does it replace my current router?

@thisbe yes

It replaces the router but not the switch that has multiple connections.

@bubal10 so my fancy Apple router is obsolete?!
by (6.1k points)
Nothings obsolete if it serves a. puropse.

@bubal10 I keep dropping WiFi on my farthest tvs

@thisbe leave your Apple router and turn WiFi off. then get eero and put that in bridge mode so it just does WiFi .

If you get a mesh system get the truth-band not the old dual band. Also, you may find you’ll need more than you think depending on the size of your house. It cost is no object get the mesh and you’ll end up spending $200+.

Actually, before we start answering the right question how fast is your Wi-Fi from your provider? If you’re not getting 500 MB or more it’s probably not worth getting a mesh Wi-Fi router. Who is your provider?

I have a larger house and without the mesh I would and did not have internet downstairs or on our deck. Speed has zero to do. with this set up.

You can have speed all day long. Its coverage man coverage. You can be cheap but the eero is easy powerful and effective. I have a number of systems in different location some much more expensive. You cant go. wrong and do not need. to. be. an IT expert to. set up. And it works.
