Any dog parks open so I can let my dog run and burn off some energy? Been leash walking her but she really needs to run. Suggested fenced in areas that may allow this? Thanks

An empty fenced tennis court is a good option, possibly.

All the dupage county dog parks are open if you have the pass.

Both Springbrook and Whalon lake dog parks are open (last I noticed) but remember you must have a permit. Perhaps a neighbor with a fenced yard?

Thanks. I'm new to the area, just moved here 4 weeks ago so I don't know anyone with a fenced yard. Looks like I'll get a pass to the Dupage Forest Preserves, seems like there are a lot of options there. Thank you very much!

@teryl you can buy a pass online and print it so you can use right away.

@litton Thank you, will do!

@derris38446 I’ve been to whalon multiple days and it’s been closed. Is it open now?

@derris38446 I believe Whalen lake is closed. no will county open

Will County website says theirs are closed, but DuPage County Dog Parks are open. We were at the one on Greene Rd today and Springbrook a couple days ago. Everyone seemed to be practicing social distancing.

Greene Valley is open. Make sure you go online and get a permit for the day or season . if they catch you there without one I think it’s like $150 fine

I just bought the year pass when I bought ours. It’s good for 7 dog parks in the area . Blackwell, East Branch, Greene Valley, Hawk Hollow, Mayslake, Oldfield Oaks and Springbrook Prairie DuPage resident dog owner Owner's first dog $50/year Each additional dog (same owner) $10/year Prorated fee (Sept. 1 – Dec. 31) $25/through end of year Daily permit $10/day  Nonresident dog owner Owner's first dog $160/year Each additional dog (same owner) $27/year Prorated fee (Sept. 1 – Dec. 31) $80/through end of year Daily permit $20/day They are no longer supplying pick up bags so make sure to bring your own to pick up after your dog.

@miguelmiguela wait a minute are you guys saying you have to pay for a permit to take your dog to a fenced-in piece of grass?
by (710 points)
@quadrangle115 yup you pay for a permit. I like Greene Valley and don’t mind paying $50 at all. It’s way cheaper than bringing my dog to doggy daycare to socialize. I think someone told me it’s like $24 a day at petsmart.

@miguelmiguela ohhhhhh my goodness.

@quadrangle115 if you had the most energetic puppy in the world like I do you would realize how important a dog park is. 2 hours there in the morning she is the most perfect dog at home. No time at the dog park its like we have released the Kraken

@miguelmiguela I have two dogs and one of them is extraordinary really high strung. We usually take her to a baseball field that's fenced in and just let her run. Their names are biscuit and gravy. When we take her on the walks at night it's like a ping pong ball she just runs back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth or to strangle herself she's insane LOL

My last 2 dogs didn’t do well with other dogs so this one I figured I would try to socialize more. Walking her can be a pain because she is always trying to chase the squirrels and birds but bringing her to the dogpark i can take her off the leash and let her run after whatever she wants and she usually finds friends to hunt with too. Greene valleys fenced in area is HUGE and they have paths that you can walk while your pup either follows or plays in the fields. Lots of the humans know each other there. We take turns bringing water or throwing balls or frisbees. Hubby thought I had lost it getting a permit for a dog park but when he saw how much of a difference it made in our spoiled little princess he started encouraging me to go even more I’m telling you don’t knock it until you try it.

Let’s hope DuPage Forest Preserve users behave & socially distance. The Forest Preserve posted a threat to shut down a couple days ago; too many COVIDIOTS still do NOT understand that social distancing means 6’ min distance from ANYONE not in your household!
by (710 points)
@protolanguage9 I usually go to Greene Valley in the mornings and we all keep a pretty good distance from each other while the pups are playing. I stopped going there on the weekends to many people not watching their own dog and way to many kids climbing trees/riding bikes/strollers way to many distractions for my puppy
by (10.7k points)
@miguelmiguela If they’re still doing that NOW, they’ll get the park closed to all.

I wish they would shut it all down. Especially in the next week or two.
by (710 points)
They have taken out the picnic benches and they have suspended the dog waste bag stations. They encourage everyone to use a clean bag to open and close the gate and to keep their distance. Even the social people at the park can easily keep 10’ distance while talking to others and watching the dogs play. Some of us really need that off leash area for our energetic puppies to play.

@miguelmiguela I get it. Trust me. But this next week or two is supposed to be the highest numbers of transmission and critical for medical staff. Personally I wish they would shut down all the trails too. It’s not forever.

Wish people wouldn’t ride their bikes on the RIVERWALK. They sneak up on you and brush past you. Going to ruin it for everyone
by (2.3k points)
@baelbeer Wish it wasn’t that way. If they see something wrong they should just address it.

@schmitz49134 yes! People don't seem to know trail protocol. A cyclist can call out "on your left"! (Or right). Still, bikes shouldn't ever be on sidewalks in our neighborhoods, in my opinion.
by (1.5k points)
@transference26 i always give other pedestrians very wide berth. I get off the sidewalk if someone comes near me.

@movable I do too

@litton A Quigley not true, as a cyclist that’s almost been hit on the street.

Yeah I went out to Greene Valley recently and it had a Covid closed sign on it. My dog was outraged, he barked all the way back to the car and was crabby the rest of the day. Suggestion (not a complaint) for park district officials. When closing something that people have to park and walk to, please put the sign in the parking lot. The dog park gate isn't that far from the lot, maybe a block, but it would have been cool to just be able to turn around and head home.
