Anyone seeing ants indoors?  We usually get them around this time of year.Anyone seeing ants indoors? We usually get them around this time of year. What kind of products do you use (non toxic)? We tried vinegar mixed with dish detergent, seems to help for a day or two but then they start to appear again on kitchen counter tops and by patio door. Thank you

Plot twist! What if the ants are social distancing and they don't bring the poison back to the nest? Sorry, couldn't resist.

I hate this season! I’ve purchased 5 cans of ant spray and I feel like my day consists of ant hunting and ant removal.

Always in the spring! We use an exterminator to spray all around the foundation and outside window sills.

Helen- we sprayed outside too, but still here

We use borax/sugar solution. Moisten onto cottons balls and put in the ants pathway. Be patient: need to wait for them to bring the poison back to their nest.

We use ant traps. The poison/chemicals are inside and only moved (back to the nest) by the ants themselves.

Terro ant traps.

@urga42809 yes I use the liquid/gel kind. They swarm all over it and bring it back to the nest. And then a few day’s later they’re gone.

@rosemari757 best stuff and cheap.
by (160 points)
@urga42809 we finally caved and used the liquid kind as well so far it seems to have done the trick versus the trap with bait and constantly spraying.

I always tried the non toxic, and ended up with ant spray in the end, so now I just start with ant spray. I do have a toddler, so I usually spray at night or during naps and mop before she gets up. Ours are by our front door. Usually I can get rid of them in one or two sprays.

Based on the above I’m amazed that ants have such a bland palate.

Cinnamon, just put down plain cinnamon if you can tell where they are coming in or in the path they walk. Ants hate cinnamon

Bought this on amazon , comes with 4 tubes. I had used ecotech for the ants I had last year and this is the stuff they use for inside the house , works great. Do not kill the ants because they need to bring it back to the nest

@thalamencephalon7 it’s so hard not to squish them one by one! They drive me nuts lol.
by (1.7k points)
That’s who we used
by (1.7k points)
@udela believe me , I had them crawling everywhere and it drove me absolutely nuts ! I killed a lot and then finally the guy came and did a dusting and spray and put that bait down and it was good after that. Now I have the stuff they used and make sure I put it down
by (1.7k points)
@thalamencephalon7 thanks! I’ll def look into it.

You can use totally natural essential oils. They run from smells like oregano and melaleuca I’m sure you can google other ideas.

This works for us, especially when you use it at point of entry to the house. I apply on the outside of the house providing a barrier for the ants not to enter the house.

Same problem with an ant here and there- we cannot figure where they are coming from to block them

A spray or sprinkle of diazanon around perimeter of house will keep them away. I remember, when we were young, my mom always set a small plate of powdered sugar and baking powder mixed together on the counter. It worked like a charm. The sweet attracts them, they eat it and the baking powder makes them explode. lol

I spray crevices & corners with white vinegar. Let air dry. Then put a cotton ball in the corners with a couple of drops of peppermint oil. So far, has kept ants, spiders & centipedes away. Just make sure it’s all natural peppermint oil.
by (3.5k points)
@slicker where do you get your all natural peppermint oil?
by (1.7k points)
@spray Young Living online or Whole Foods.

Mine are not tiny ants like when you have crumbs of food outside- usually one black ant at a time and not tiny ones

We have a few this year. We usually use liquid ant traps (the ones with solid bait do not work, in my opinion. The biggest challenge is finding places to put the baits where they work and are away from kids and pets.
