I know someone posted this already but come on people get off of the streets and park in your damn DRIVEWAYS. Niles Public Works has a job to do! Wth is wrong with people? Long driveways too! Niles PD should start giving out tickets. Make some REVENUE that way for homes with driveways and plenty of room to park. Shout out to NPW having to maneuver around these cars, especially the Monster plow doing side streets off Ebinger

Your so nice to send a Shout Out. NPW are AWESOME. They really do a great job on our streets. Some streets in other towns are really bad. hope you are ok thru this storm sweetie

@sclera37758, what grade do you teach?
by (5.1k points)
Junior high is all I’m going to say! I’m a private person
by (4k points)
That's why I didn't ask what school. Good for you. That age needs some good role models. I have three nieces who are teachers but more like parents at times sadly. Thanks for what you do

@sclera37758 that's AWESOME. love teachers

I am well aware that some people don't have driveways. That's why I indicated to those who "have driveways" and long ones with plenty of space. NPW IS AWESOME!

Don’t you pay taxes to park on the street?
by (4k points)
What does that have to do with common courtesy to help these men & women plow our streets?
by (4k points)
I'm actually hoping my neighbor on the corner is somewhere on this site reading this post. NPW has such a hard time trying to maneuver around his car at the corner and his driveway is a half a block long. SMH it's a 4 x 4 so I really don't think he cares. Can't fix stupid
by (850 points)
If he gets hit that’s on him.
by (4k points)
No, it's actually on NPW driver
by (11.6k points)
@study EXACTLY
by (2k points)
@outcry952 actually it is not on him. If he gets hit whomever hits the car is responsible.

Tickets for what? There is an ordinance that allows cars to park on the street. Why are people in such an uproar? I don’t get it. #fussaboutnothing
by (3.5k points)
@poliard I get it! A lot of my neighbors don’t have driveways, ours is short so we can park two cars side by side but if I put mine behind someone I block the sidewalk and I know they will ticket me then. I just don’t like that people are making other seem lazy or bad Bc they don’t park in their driveways. Some people pay for snow removal of their own driveways and want them car free so the snow is removed.
by (3.5k points)
@catechist92165 my side street people have to park across from one another and most of those houses don’t have driveways.
by (1.9k points)
@politicking our neighbors across the street from us have 3 SUV's that they intentionally park on the street so that nobody (mainly me because I would park in front of their house because there is no trees & I have a convertible) else can park there. They have a long driveway that goes to their garage and the garage has 2 doors so they can exit to the alley also. They can easily fit six cars in their driveway! That is how long it is. The previous owners only parked one of their cars on the street & they never cared that I parked there, they understood why I did.
by (3.4k points)
Its not for the people who don't have driveways, but a lot of people do but choose not to use them. They literally had to stop plowing and get out and ask them to move their cars. Both with very long driveways.
by (2k points)
We have lived in this house since 1953 and the phone number has not changed since 1953. We did not get a call like you did.

Maybe there needs to be a new ordinance for people with long driveways during snow falls like this with plows trying to go up and down the side streets. #anewplan #change

@study I agree with you. Not only during a snow fall, but also on leaf pick up days. We have GREAT public services here in the Village of Niles that are second to none. Give the crews a break and show some courtesy to them as well as your neighbors. If you have a driveway, then use it to park your vehicles when necessary. Not rocket science here.
by (4k points)
@shafting543 and we have lived here long enough to know. There really are second to none and repeatedly ask residents to do their part to get their jobs done in the most efficient manner. It's a real shame. They deserve a huge shout out
by (450 points)
@shafting543 I agree! I yelled at Janelle when I got home about that today. When it snows, put your car in the driveway. It’s more important to get the streets all clean, we can worry about moving the cars later.
by (4k points)
I wish you would come and yell at my neighbor. The huge Niles Public Works truck has such a hard time getting around him to turn around. Plenty of room in his driveway
by (1.9k points)
Over here on Ebinger Drive it's the same bs. Most People have these long driveways and don't park their cars/trucks on them. Also there are a few cars parked on Ebinger from the tenants on @marleenmarlen671mary Lane every day and NPW has to go around them as well. The NPD should start writing tickets when they don't move their cars and the street needs plowing.
by (2k points)
@shafting543 cannot write tickets if it is not posted. Many of us have too many cars to fit on the drive.
by (4k points)
@pitchblack, that was me (my daughter) after getting plowed in on @marleenmarlen671mary and no salt, which turned the street into an ice rink. It took 5 to help her out of the circle turning around. Check you cameras. Sorry neighbor. There is nowhere to go. I got stuck in the back from the mound left when the corner house (across from Linda) wouldn't move his car. Truck could not clean up "mound" of snow without hitting the fool.

Alot of us do not have driveways & the ones who do on our street always park in front of their house so nobody else can park there.
by (4k points)
@poliard, it's rude on days/nights like this. Sad! Then bitch and moan when they get plowed in. Excuse my language
by (1.9k points)
Let them get plowed in, it's their own fault. Others like us have no choice but to park on the street.

@poliard you are so correct. Those that have driveways need to use them.

The worst is when someone has a driveway but parks in front of your house so the plows/cleaning/pick ups cant get to you (ME! )
by (1.7k points)
People can be so inconsiderate at times, so sad.

My neighbor does this. Long driveway that could fit 10 cars. He pull one car out as soon as it starts snowing. The plow dumps a wall of snow in front of my driveway as he goes around his car. My back can't handle that heavy stuff.
by (4k points)
@jink1140 park in front of his house every day for a week!
by (2.7k points)
@study, I did that a couple years ago. He called it in as a abandoned vehicle and had the police knocking on my door. The dude is nuts and not afraid to show it.
by (4k points)
@jink1140 lol

We use to park cars all on one side of st until plows went down then moved cars to other side but people are not that considerate any more

Agreed more cars on our street, that can go up on a driveway
by (4k points)
@presley it's a real shame. They need to make some changes here in Niles
by (2.6k points)
I say give them a ticket
by (4k points)
Me too! Someone mentioned there is an ordinance that people can park on the streets during this type of weather and if that's the case perhaps there needs to be a change in that ordinance. Niles would make a ton of money
by (1.9k points)
Or one side of the street is no parking during snow over 3 inches like in Chicago so at least one side and middle of the street is plowed.

I had to park on the street last night when coming home late, my car could not make it up the driveway, too slippery! Sorry!

A lot of people use garages as a storage unit. Just because they have one doesn’t mean there is any room for a car. I’ve also noticed a lot of short driveways in Niles where if someone parked their car in it they would be blocking the sidewalk which is illegal. Also if their driveways are covered in snow by the time they’re there it would be illogical and unsafe for them to attempt to get their car over the snowy driveway. People are doing what they can, I don’t believe anyone is purposely leaving their cars on the street to bother public works.

A shout out to all of the residents here on Forest View Lane! Everyone, yes everyone, took the time and care to follow the Village's request to not have their cars parked on the street. Kudos to all, we did a good job!

Evanston has signs that say when it snows on odd days, no parking and Visa versa on the other side of the street. Maybe Niles could do something like that.
by (1.8k points)
@ratan98 yeah Skokie has that rule too, and tickets anyone who doesn't listen.
by (6.3k points)
@kesterson where/ who do we pitch this idea to?
by (1.8k points)
@ratan98 I rather we don't do that. I live right across from Morrison's and these assholes tend to take all of our street parking. I have to park a block away as it is now.
by (6.3k points)
@kesterson around Notre Dame they have signs that says residents only during school hours. Maybe the village can do something similar around Morrison’s?
by (1.8k points)
@ratan98 they have those signs here as well. But according to police, those signs are only here to deter, not enforce. It sucks, but we can't do anything about it.
by (6.3k points)
@kesterson aw man. I didnt know that.

Seems that folks who live on Wisner between Park and Dempster need to park on streets like Elmore, since they have no space on their street. Poor village planning? Too many cars, in general?
by (4k points)
@dougall T. Miller if they don't have a driveway, they have no choice. The Village has nothing to do with that. Residents received phone calls to move cars to driveways during snow so plows can do their job safely and effectively but some people (like my neighbor in pictures avove) are just plain ignorant and ignore the "common sense" requests
