Have you been to the grocery stores? People are so ignorant. Crowding. not following cues on isles. wearing their masks half off their faces. People Who think They are impervious cant possiably be practicing the necessary measures it takes to keep the spread to a minimum in Their everyday lives . No suprise that We would have high numbers. Its quite maddening really.
by (1.1k points)
@ecg72 This. And then it gets spread to us essential workers who spread it to the vulnerable people we serve.

Because of the large number of nursing homes we have in the city.

@scission I’m very sorry to hear your mom passed away. I remember how much you loved her. May she Rest In Peace. My condolences to your family.

@hedveh62302 there also are deliveries of cleaning products, somd have cintas picking up carets, , etc could me any number of accesses
by (1.1k points)
@hedveh62302 I work at a retirement community (we have independent living, skilled care and assisted living). We are extremely fortunate to have all the PPE and resources we need. IDPH is not doing mass testing on employees or residents unless contact tracing indicates to do so. Unless the employees go out and get tested themselves, they wouldn’t be tested for COVID. Also you can test negative today and be positive tomorrow. Given the close contact between nurses and CNA’s to residents, even with appropriate PPE, exposure is possible. Now take into account that most nursing homes are understaffed and under-resourced and it’s the perfect storm.

More people have been out and about. Some don’t practice distancing. I think they expect the numbers to jump even more.

@cleodal peak predicted in June.

It’s nursing home related. And apparently people don’t know how to wash their hands because that’s what this is caused most of the time by.
by (1.1k points)
@flood True. But it’s mostly caused by prolonged close contact.

Niles nursing home is reporting at least 122 cases of COVID-19 among its residents and staff as the virus continues its spread within area long-term care facilities. In answer to your question @statocyst85 - Seventy-nine residents and 43 staff members at Generations at Regency, 6631 N. Milwaukee Ave., have tested positive for COVID-19 as of May 5, according to a statement from the facility provided to Pioneer Press. Eight residents have died of the virus, the statement said.

Great way to put more fear into the public. Thx for the post

@ragman418 especially from someone with no connection to Niles, whatsoever.

Fear should be spread. Maybe then people would actually take this shit seriously

Not fear, knowledge or do you think this will just go away.
by (500 points)
@cleodal There’s no reason to be posting all that information on Facebook, when so many people are fearful of this virus already. It is only adding to the problem of people’s mental health
by (1.1k points)
@mcmillin308 well than I guess some people need to toughen up.

Because stores like the Walmart and target in golf are not following the guidelines. They are letting any amount of people in the store and not enforcing the masks. They are even letting associates walk around with out masks on. They are also not cleaning the registers after every use. Like other locations are doing.
by (3.5k points)
@ballocks - I have to disagree with you about Target. Every time I have gone, there has been someone ensuring patrons have masks on outside the entrance. Workers are seen sanitizing each and every cart. Every worker I have seen has had a mask on. Maybe your experience was the case in the beginning, but it has not been mine lately.
by (1.3k points)
@susette are you referring you the target on Golf, which is what I referenced in my post? I went this past weekend and it was not the first time since the stay at home that this particular location was over crowded and employees did not have masks on and the person at the front, who should have been numbering how many can come in, was busy engrossed in his phone. Even the cashiers were complaining to the manager about how crowded the store was and the manager could care less. Again, this was this past weekend and it was not the first time this location was like this. Even the associate if the food section did not have his mask on. The cashier who rang me up said that they only clean the registers every hour. The location in Glenview cleans after every customer, which is how it should be
by (930 points)
@ballocks when I’ve gone to the location on Golf the self checkout was being cleaned after each person. Carts were cleaned for each incoming person and everyone had a mask. I didn’t experience over crowding either on my visits but perhaps that is just time of day.
by (1.3k points)
@piscatelli it could be. It could also depend on the manger in the floor that day as wells. Maybe the manager that is there when I go has a more cavalier attitude about everything. That is always possible but if that is the case it is still a bad thing

Nursing homes.

@mcmillin308, to my knowledge you don't live in , have never lived in, and don't own a home or business, in Niles. Yet you sarcastically thanked me, a Niles homeowner, of a house in my family since 1954, for my post.

I think most f it is Nursing homes, also. However, one of my neighbors got it, spent 3 days in the hospital and has no Idea how he got it. Has been wearing PPE from the beginning. Also, they are doing a lot more testing now, so numbers will go up fr a while.

This is a very very serious illness. Of you feel sick or have been around anyone that is sick go get tested.

Science behind covid. Sunlight breaks down the fatty shell of the virus so why is Walmart open and the beach not? Wearing masks for prolonged periods (no matter how good the respirator is ranked) forces the body to recirculate waste via carbon dioxide which if repeated daily, will cause respiratory stress and carbon dioxide poisoning causing fatigue and nausea, which would result in your body’s resilience focusing on that rather than an incoming virus. Gloves are meant to prevent contamination so unless you take gloves off every time you touch something different, you are spreading the disease more virulently because most people don’t wash their hands with gloves on. All PPE and excessive cleaning and hand washing will deteriorate your natural biomes; there are good and bad bacteria in your body and the viral and bacterial fighting bacteria are becoming weak and less effective against invasive disease making us more susceptible and vulnerable to the virus. Hand sanitizer can help to break down the fatty shell on the virus but the virus is still viable without its exterior defense and can still infect you unless you remove it from the surface it contaminated which sanitizer does not. Getting fresh air will strengthen your respiratory system which is best defense against a virus that attacks it directly. Do take precautions. Do be careful. But don’t wear a mask unless you cannot maintain 6ft from someone or if you are coughing or sneezing considering a mask offers no protection anyways unless someone sneezes or coughs near you because the virus is not transmitted via air, rather droplets. It is an awful tragedy that we are losing people to this disease, but following the guidelines that the government has set forth for us to follow blindly will only result in more fatal cases of covid rather than the proposed decline by taking these actions.

Who is your source for this? Unless you can provide a documented, expert source I'll follow the advice of doctors and scientists.
by (1.2k points)
@killifish hope this helps you live longer.
by (140 points)
@ko36 anyone who is shopping and even considers reaching for their cell phone is an idiot! Most people are wearing gloves and a mask and not talking on cell phones while they're shopping at the stores I visit. A little common sense goes a long way. In addition, The Washington Post article basically states peer review and additional studies are needed with regard to sunlight and heat. It's good to be optimistic and hopeful, but concrete science is what matters most. Oh and I now get why Dr. Birx, who Fauci brought in as a coordinator has become a cheerleader for the president. As stated in the Wapo article, she may be up to be the new HHS secretary.

@roby79 that’s terrifying considering her daughter is deputy director for gates foundation who wants mandatory vaccinations globally in order to lift stay at home orders and end quarantines.

Because they're making up numbers.
by (1.1k points)
@brig84784 well you are one of the problems not the solution.
by (140 points)
@brig84784 sorta of correct - actually under reporting. The devil is always in the details which some people these days seem to all too happy to ignore.
by (970 points)
@cleodal There's no need to be nasty, I didn't attack anyone.
by (1.1k points)
@brig84784 what possible reason would these people have for making up the numbers? It’s just ridiculous!
by (970 points)
@cleodal It's my perspective and opinion, which I'm entitled to. I have in no way disrespected you or anyone else in this group, so there is no reason to refer to me as "part of the problem. " I am the spouse of a first responder, my family is very much part of the solution. If you disagree with me or my opinion, I still fully respect you and your right to feel differently. As neighbors, we should be able to disagree and still respect each other.
by (1.8k points)
It should clarify number of positive results. More people are getting tested now that there is greater availability of tests so not necessarily surprising. There is a need for detail though, like did they require hospitalization? How sick were they? The numbers themselves don't provide an accurate picture and equating the number positive with these other considerations is key. It is likely that the numbers infected here and elsewhere is much greater since some people had it and it was mild enough to not warrant medical attention. That's a good thing since more people have immunity and it increases the denominator when considering the death rate. Meaning the death rate is lower than what we can gleam just based on positive cases if that makes sense.
