Is it just me or are the traffic signal lights at Oakton/Milwaukee, Oakton/Harlem, and Oakton/Waukegan ridiculously long? In off hours too.

Im a crossing guard on oakton. the company comes to check the timing every few months. the lights down oakton all work in sync and pretty much right on. By civic center westbound oakton gets 30 seconds to turn on to civic and the straight traffic gets 1 min. Exiting civic gets 20 seconds unless there is a long line of cars then they get 30 and the walk on red is 26 seconds. I watch the lights go from green to yellow to red every day and they are all in sync- until an emergency vehicle comes by and changes it so they can go through the intersection. Maybe by Milwaukee the new pulse bus interferes with the timing because they have that power to do so- it was part of the plan to keep the bus moving like an express

very informative stuff @

. Appreciate the info and thank you for the work you do. Crossing guards do not get enough recognition for what they do. I never realized all those lights would be in synch. And you’re probably right about the Pulse busses on Milwaukee and their magic light changer. Now if only I could get one of those!

I see you out there every day, and you are amazing! No matter the weather, you’re always there making sure kids make it across the street and especially keep them safe from people who insist on turning right on red despite the sign not to do so. Thank you for the job you do!

Oakton and Harlem is definitely a little long. I drove that way daily for 10 years, I found it pretty annoying that the longest stoplight was the one closest to home.

Try the one at Harts and Milwaukee. A person could die waiting for that light to change!

Milwaukee/Waukegan/NPD is the WORST in Niles IMO and especially @ rush hour. A hot mess of timing lights. The NPD light should ONLY change when a PD/vehicle is at that light. I avoid that area during rush hour especially! They really should change that Niles PD light to trigger only when a vehicle is at the light.

there is some talk of the village rerouting Waukegan there. I think that is why they bought the gas station. Remember how it used to be with a gas station closer to touhy and Waukegan ended closer to where the police station is now

yes and I sure hope so. That intersection is a mess @

. It took me 15 minutes on Waukegan trying to go S on Milwaukee at 5:30. Never again.
