Opinions please.  looking to put doors on my office.Opinions please. looking to put doors on my office. I have a rustic/farmhouse/boho style. Do I. 1. Buy white interior regular French doors (or another color/style). Knowing that the doors won’t open all the way and may annoy the shit out of me. 2. Buy a barn door? Knowing the barn door will cross into the little section on the left (while open), possibly make me feel like a prisoner in my office (or make me feel like I’m on a vacation) and might not match the wood floors. I’m so confused! What do y’all think?
Opinions please. looking to put doors on my office.

French doors. The barn door style won’t be trendy forever and you’ll get sick of it sooner.

Google Barn doors with Bypass. You lose being able to open both sides at the same time but you don’t lose either side of your wall. We have on our back porch sliding glass door. We only Use the left side anyway

I love the look of barn doors however if you ever decide to change the theme/style of your house from rustic/farmhouse it won’t match where as French can match anything.

Can’t the doors open inside instead of outside?

Love barn doors but I think 5 years from now you will want to change them. I personally like to go traditional with the big items and trendy with easier to change items. But you can’t go wrong with what you love and what makes you happy!

I would do French doors. We have French doors that swing into the office which makes it better.

Sliding barn doors for sure with dark hardware for the slides and handles on the door. It would go great with the dark wood you have.

My office has a door that opens into the room. My dog’s crate is behind the door so I can’t open it all the way and it doesn’t annoy me like I thought it would. I use a door stop to prevent the door from moving.

@dhyana I like that!

White French, I love barns doors but I agree with other posters that the white french is much more timeless
by (6.7k points)
@fluted agreed. I’m working with a real estate client now who specifically said, “no barnyard (lol) theme, no barn doors, painted cabinets, rustic stuff, grey everything I will have to replace in a few few years! ”  It’s been around for awhile I’m not sure how long it will last! Now, if you love it, get it, you can always replace it! But if you’re looking for timeless I suggest glass French doors!

We went with split barn doors with frosted glass. They are painted the same color as the trim. We think they will be timeless. These will not encroach into other areas of a room like french doors do. You can’t go wrong with these!

You can purchase a kit at Menards to make French doors into a sliding door. We did this many years ago with a kit and wood French doors on our dining room. Google "sliding door hardware kit" and you will see the options. You can attach the kit to most styles of doors. We also have another room that has glass bifold doors and they don't take up much space when they are open either.

Barn doors are going to go out of style at some point (soon), so if you don’t want to have to replace the doors again in the future stick with French doors.

Barn doors are beautiful, but it might be overwhelming in an office and there will be no light. French doors are very classic
