@lob902 I am so happy to hear that. what were your sx If you don’t mind me asking?
by (710 points)
@adventurism7 extreme coughing, fever, body aches, headache, tiredness, heavy chest, crackled breathing. pretty much all of the symptoms. I’m probably forgetting some.
by (4k points)
@lob902 did you just self quarantine at home for 2 weeks?
by (710 points)
@adventurism7 I did for 4 weeks. 2 weeks in my room by myself and 2 weeks in my home.
by (4k points)
@lob902 thank you for sharing.
by (710 points)
@adventurism7 sure. It takes a long time to recover. It took a full month to feel like I was over it and started regaining strength. Hopefully everyone in your house stays healthy!

by (1.3k points)
I don’t know how long it’s severe for though and I’m sure it varies.

@maribelmaribelle750 just glad for ALL that recover from it and we can all be here for our families and just appreciate things a tad more. ❤️❤️❤️

@yardman I was sooo sick right around thanksgiving well onto December. Tested negative for flu; did an X-ray and didn’t have pneumonia. Was coughing so hard I was vomiting - that lasted a couple weeks. Was so horribly sick - would love to get the antibody test. Glad we are both feeling better!
by (3k points)
@wildawildcat yes amen to that
by (2.1k points)
@yardman I’m pretty sure my whole family had it in January. I had a cough where I tasted blood for like a month. My son went to the hospital for extreme coughing and he had an oxygen level of 82% and then we found out he had mild asthma which didn’t help the situation. But we are all healthy and great now!

I was very sick in early March. They could not get approval for me to be tested. However, 3 different medical professionals, during 3 different visits all tried to get approval. So, I was told I most likely had it but it wasn’t able to be confirmed by testing. I was sick for about 5-6 weeks. I had a cough that literally made me pass out from not being able to breath. Two weeks of consistent fevers that would never break for more than 24 hours. 3 weeks of coughing so bad in the middle of the night I would be up from 2-4am coughing and vomiting from the cough. I legit coughed so bad my tampon popped out multiple times during my March period  I seriously went to the doctor 4 times, went through 5 prescriptions that didn’t give me any relief.
by (3k points)
@laocoon9707 girl had same happen. It was horrible. Was told I had flu and I could not have tamiflu. Then they gave me antibiotics for bronchitis two weeks later.
by (1.7k points)
I was negative for flu (tested twice, two weeks apart) and negative for strep. I was literally told “We will call this bronchitis for insurance purposes. ” However, I get bronchitis annually, this was NOTHING like I have ever experienced. I went through 2 different prescription cough meds, steroids, an inhaler, and a z-pack. Nothing helped like it should have.
by (200 points)
@laocoon9707 I had a very similar experience in March as well. I’m going to get tested to see if I have the antibodies.
by (1.7k points)
Alethea, I want to do that as well!
by (3.8k points)
@laocoon9707 you poor thing:( get tested for the antibodies! Did anyone else in your household get it!? Just curious bc they say sometimes kids Have no symptoms.

They didnt test my daughter because they didn’t have the testing but they said they are almost positive she had it. She had a fever for 7 days and bad cough which turned into pneumonia. It took her 3 weeks to be 100%, my son was sick 10 days before her first symptoms with the same thing but mild and they said that he probably had it and that’s how she got sick. I was sick with the same thing the sickest I have ever been end of February and tested negative for the flu. It took me a month too feel 100% I did not get sick when my daughter was sick and was taking care of her the whole time. Which makes me think I had it also. There are a lot of people who have probably had covid but never got tested.
by (3.4k points)
@colicroot8848 did they test for flu first? I know flu A was going around crazy at school and in class. Lexi had it.
by (680 points)
No because it was over Easter she was sick they said since she hadn’t been anywhere the incubation period of when kale was sick to when she got sick that it couldn’t be the flu. Since her lung X-ray showed pneumonia they were almost sure she had covid.
by (3.4k points)
@colicroot8848 oh gotcha. So scary!

@assortment2589 it was very scary.

I was also really sick in (can’t remember when). Vomiting, very loose stool, was rushed into the er because I had labored breathing. I was giving a strep test and other tests. Chest X-rays. I also am a chemo patient and was giving a test but never told what it was called. I’ve seen the covid tests done & that’s exactly what I had. I was admitted to the hospital and in there for 3 days. they never came into my room without full ppe. It was a little odd

I was very sick (while pregnant) in November and December. Same exact symptoms and tested negative for the flu. My obgyn said I just had a virus and there was nothing they could do for it. My mother tested positive had every symptom possible. Then turned into double pneumonia in both lungs. She is only 50 and had no underlying health issues. Her dr said she was in his top 5 worse cases he thought she wouldn’t make it and is now covid free feeling about 90% better
by (2.2k points)
@exsert yes She was the one I was talking about! I was so worried about your mama

A mom-friend of the family has it. They were so cautious before hand too. Yet, it struck. Sounds terrible.
by (3k points)
@applicant975 I know a man and wife that own a farm in morris and neither have left their home in 43 days the hubby has it. No food deliveries, no mail cause all on bill pay, no visitors. They grow their own veggies and have cows for slaughter. I want to know how this happened? Something is not right? I work in healthcare and some things I am seeing is morally unethical.
by (480 points)
@applicant975 sane with my mother, she stopped leaving the house wore gloves and masks if she did leave she did everything she was suppose to and still got it. My dad and brother live with her and we’re around her and didn’t get it and we’re refused testing because they had no symptoms.

Does anyone know if there is info/data about how many positive cases of COVID also got the flu shot?
by (4k points)
@cyna296 do you mind sending me one of those article links?
by (3k points)
@cyna296 yes but in January. I recently was tested at work and came up positive for antibodies
by (1.7k points)
@cyna296 Interesting. I’ve never had the flu shot and I have a higher likelihood of having been exposed to COVID. I have not had it. Or if I had it, I’ve never shown symptoms. My kids and I never get flu shots and almost never get flus or viruses. My daughter is the only one of the three of us that will get a 24 flu bug on occasion. She’s super social and works around kids, so that may be why. She’s had it twice in the last 6-7 years. My son and I are home bodies and normally not around a lot of people. My daughter got sick a few weeks ago. She had a low fever and body aches just for 24 hours.
by (500 points)
@cyna296 So are you saying that one could have gotten Covid from a flu shot?

I was sick well before all of this became so public in this area. I was tested for the anti-bodies this week and tested positive. They had diagnosed me with "walking pneumonia" and bronchitis and gave me antibiotics and steroids. It didn't help the cough, which lasted about a month (maybe even more).
by (580 points)
Out of curiosity, how far back were you sick?
by (790 points)
@exciseman16 Late January through all of February
by (580 points)
@struve I'm glad you are feeling better. It certainly seems like this was here before we realized it.
by (790 points)
@exciseman16 it had to have been. I have felt great since they say it was here. I didn’t travel anywhere exotic during that time, but I took the Metra to the city daily and was in contact with so many people. No idea how it could be traced.
by (140 points)
@struve Where did you get tested? I was researching the Quest Diagnostic test and going to a lab but didn’t know if there was an easier option out there.
by (790 points)
@teetotaler my Dr in the city. I know that there is a Chiropractor in Oswego that is doing the fast result finger prick.
by (140 points)
@struve Thank you! I’ll look into that also! We had the same in January too so I’m so curious.

Not to stir up anything too crazy. But I’m just curious. Because this is a new virus and we are still learning things every day. For those of you that were really, really sick and tested positive? Did you also have the flu vaccine this year? Not if your symptoms were like a cold, but the sickest you’ve ever felt. And please this is just for my own information. I’m not making any waves. I just choose to get information from science, and trusted sources and make decisions for my family based off of them. And would like some honest answers. Thanks.
by (710 points)
@dicta I did not get the flu vaccine.
by (3k points)
@dicta no i did not
by (1.7k points)
I got the flu shot back in October
by (1.7k points)
@dicta this is a totally valid question even tho they are 2 different viruses. But makes me wonder too.

My brother had it for over 5 weeks—— was NOT tested. Doctor said it probably was Covid19 but they refused to test him. He has been battling Bronchitis double pneumonia. He is 22. He couldn’t breathe or walk without wheezing. It was horrible. He is just now feeling better but fatigued. He has no prior health issues. He was turned away for testing several times but he had every symptom. It was the worst I have ever seen my brother sick.
by (1.3k points)
@seabury Koebele why wouldn’t they test him? Makes no sense
by (950 points)
Exactly. There are some places still denying people. I am not exaggerating when my mom was calling me in the middle of the night scared listening to him struggle to breathe. She took him several times to the doctors and he was turned away.

For those of you who were sick (mothers in particular) and have families with young children. Please share how were you able to self quarantine, stay away or keep the children away or even minimize functioning around the house during that difficult time of few weeks you were so sick. How did you manage to keep everything sanitized (dishes, laundry machine etc ) to avoid spreading the virus to family members. Also, did you try to get admitted to a hospital at any point?
by (1.7k points)
I honestly didn’t even try to stay away from my family. I feel like avoiding my son for a few weeks would have been more detrimental to him than catching it. Stuff around the house did get out of control at times, but it’s easy to catch up or have the husband do when he took over. Those weeks when I was sick are a blur because I was literally running a fever for two weeks. I don’t remember much of it but we were all just in survival mode, and we made it through.
by (930 points)
@laocoon9707 thank you so much for sharing. My worst fear is to deal with the virus at home with 3 young children and having a working husband manage everything and most of all to try to eliminate or minimize the exposure. Self quarantining, on lockdown in one room for period of few weeks seems as terrifying as the virus itself but how to function with fever and cough when the risk is so high and the children and family members are so close to you. I'm so happy to hear you are back to your health and no one else in your household became sick.
by (790 points)
@fetor641 didn’t do anything. My kids never got sick. My life was pretty normal other than being tired and an annoying cough. I never get fevers. I wasn’t able to exercise like I normally do, but I was eating  clean and I’m sure all of that helped.
by (2.2k points)
@struve we have been eating way more clean than normal and lots of home cooked meals. I think that is what is saving us. We also don’t go out at all except our own backyard
by (3.5k points)
@fetor641 I think by the time you find out you have it, you’ve already exposed your kids, so I don’t think I’d be trying to isolate myself from them.
